Ferm, do some research on pelvic alignment, most physical therapist ignore this, it really helped me get rid of a lot of back pain and sciatic nerve pain. I was lucky that the first therapist I went to was up on this and believed in it. Most of the exercises are very simple. I can explain most of them to you or even scan and email the pamphlets I got from the therapist. It helped me a lot, even though I ended up having surgery anyways. Call me if you have any questions |
I know my pelvis alignment is messed up from having 2 different length legs now. I was looking over my MRI images, and HOLY CRAP at the scar tissue I have. It has even started going down into my good hip and leg from favoring my bad one. The ball for my hip is no longer shaped like the good one, and I have actual voids inside the muscles and tissue from previous surgeries and where the hardware used to be. Im going to try and get a few screen shots saved to upload, but it's a friggen mess. It looks like I'm at the point of pain management now, and no more working. I wished now I would have listened to the doctors better when I was younger and not tried to push it and do the stuff I used to do. |
Well doctor #2 today confirmed there isn't really anything they can do for my hip. Sucks being in pain, and being told they can't do anything for it. My hip is encased in a large mass of scar tissue and voids from years of not listening to the doctors to take it easy. Guess I should have listened to the doctors when they told me to take it easy all them years back instead of trying to be superman and saying I can still do it. He said another injection might help as he thinks the scar tissue didnt let the steroid get into the joint, but its a long shot. Another option is to have a hip debrievement done to remove the scar tissue, then an injection, but this would still be short term relief as the scar tissue will just come back with a vengance. Or a last resort shot in the dark would be a hip replacement, but he also said going in could adjetate it and make it even worse. His reccomendation was to get off the pills and live with it, so thats what I'm doing. |
Hope it all works out some how!! :pray2::pray2: |

Feel for ya Ferm. Hang in there. |

Figured I would go ahead and update this. The pain in my hip got unbearable, so I broke down and went back to the doctor that operated on me last. He was rather disappointed that the shots they gave me didn't help. As he put it, I shouldn't have felt ANYTHING in my hip 2-3 hours afterwards due to the nerve blocker shot he ordered(I'm one of those lucky people that they don't work for). His reccomendation is an exploratory surgery to go i nand actually put a camera in and see what is binding it up. Since I can't chance being off my feet for another 6 weeks(the last operation was only supposed to be 1-2 weeks off my feet which turned into 6 weeks afterwards), he sent me to pain mangement. I was getting to be a pretty unbearable individual to the point my marriage was suffering, so I broke down and went. He put me on a muscle relaxer, anti seizure med, and doubled my pain meds. I go back to him Wednesday this time with a formialry list so he can pick a covered narcotic that he feels is more appropriate for wat I'm going through(theres not many pain meds I can take with all of my previous complications and current meds). So right now it's all a waiting game until next summer when I can hopefully have them go back in and see whats wrong after my wife is out for the summer to watch the kids. |

Still praying for ya!! :pray2: |

Small glimmer of hope in my future. When my hip problems got really bad back in 2013, I broke down and applied for disability. Hated doing it, but I had to try and do something to help provide for the family as my wifes income isn't enough(been selling stuff off trying to stay afloat in the mean time). Social security of course automatically denied me saying I didn't have enough medical history to prove I was disabled when I was still insured(haven't worked an actual job in a long time since my wreck was in 2001, just worked what I could when I could since then, and continued paying my taxes like I should since). I ended up getting an attorney(the 1st 3 turned me down, lucked out and found good reviews for one right up the road that didn't turn people away) to take it, got it in front of a judge, and finally won. So at least now we can hopefully afford health insurance for us as it was taking over half my wifes income to pay all 4 of our policies(courtesy of obamacare were all 4 on different plans because we can't afford to all be on her's through work). So at least now I can hopefully at least have the funds to go to the doctors, and insurance to do it. |

Good news Ferm, good luck going forward with your treatments |

Good to hear some good news Ferm. Keep hanging in there bro. |

Got my insurance and such squared away last month, so now I have resumed going to the doctors to try and move forward with taking care of some of my problems, and maybe get off of some of the pain meds. Went and seen a micro surgeon yesterday who specializes in hand and wrist surgery because I have lost feeling in my left hand for about 3 weeks now. My primary doctor thinks it's carpal tunnel, so I figure OK, simple enough. Seen the doc, and he thinks it might be carpal tunnel, but he said what I'm experiencing is more common in people who have used crutches and canes for walking for long periods of time. He thinks I have nerve damage either in my spinal cord(from supporting my body weight up with my shoulders for prolonged periods instead of with my hips how our bodies are meant to), or I might have damaged the nerves that run under my armpits. So they are scheduling me for a nerve conduction study, and an EMG test to check for nerve damage or prove it's carpal tunnel. So I'm waiting for the nuerologists office to call me and set up an appt for that. My pain management doctor has wanted me to see one since I started seeing him as he thinks I have spinal damage that has gone undiagnosed since my accident in 2001. Also it looks like I'm showing signs of rhuematoid arthritis setting which could also explain my hands as RA is known to cause carpal tunnel. I'm in the age range for when most people start to show signs of it, and the hand swelling, bent fingers, and NUMEROUS other indicators are pointing towards it. So I have to call and get set up for a blood test to check for that now. Not trying to sound like I'm complaining, just helps to get it off my chest sometimes as the wife is overwelmed to say the least with a 3 year old, our 8 month old(I beat the IUD challenge), and me going to the doctor all the time now. Just trying to do everything I can to keep my mind off of it as of late, and keep moving forward. I know others here are also in bad shape, so maybe we ought to add in a gimp section for us to share our medical woes to make others think life aint so bad afterall. |
Keep the faith, ferm. It sounds like progress is coming. |
Hopfuly your on the right track! good luck! :pray2: |
"(I beat the IUD challenge)" That's gonna be a tough kid, LOL Hope the docs and find something that works for you Ferm, I know y'all have to be frustrated as can be. |
I'm at the point now I'm HOPING its rhuematoid arthritis. I get theblood test next month to see. On one hand RA is bad news as you cant get rid of it, but at least its treatable and they can hopefully help me out and prolong my deteriation. Its hard to believe a few years ago I was out building frankenburban and able to get out and do things, now I'm dam near in a wheelchair a large portion of the day. Waiting on a call back from the nuerosurgeon so I can get my spinal cord checked as they suspect I have spinal cord damage. |
Haven't updated this one in quite awhile now, but my health has slipped again. The tests last year were all negative for rhuematoid, but they did diagnose me with chronic pain syndrome and fibromyalgia. Basically said my brain is pretty much only processing pain responses no matter what I'm actually feeling. The only thing they said I could do was continue with pain management to try and dull the pain sensations and block the nerves. All was doing ok until Christmas time when my back started flaring up, and my sciatic got so bad I spent a good portion of Christmas day flat on my back. Fast forward to today, I've now had 4 mri's, 4 sets of x-rays, and several trips to the ortho dr, here's a copy of the highlights I posted on facebook earlier. Got all of my mri and xray reports together now, in short, I'M FUBAR! Left shoulder has bursitus, voids, fluid pockets, cysts, rotator cuff tendon damage, arthritis, degenerative joint disorder, and a few others. Right shoulder is still screwed, not much else can be said for it. Left hip has regrown the bone spurs, joint narrowing is occuring, and severe arthritis is setting in. Then there's the matter of my back and neck. There's 12 protrusions and or bulges from the s1 on up(they didn't do the s1-s5, but I wish now they would have as the damage from the l4-l5 and l5-s1 was worsening going down). So c3-c4, c4-c5, c6-c7, t5-t6, t6-t7, t7-t8, t9-t10, t11-t-12, t12-l1, l4-l5, and l5-s1. Annular tear from t7-t8. Mild scoliosis is setting in, spinal arthritis in several spots, several spots where the spinal cord runs through is narrowing, and some more. At least now I know what is causing the problem with where if somebody touches my back in a certain spot, my legs go out. It's right where I have the annular tear, and one of the symptoms of one is paralysis from the waist down. |
Ferm, there's not much I can say except how sorry I am to hear of all your problems. I wish there was some kind of magic wand I could wave and make them go away, but since there isn't all I can do will be to continue to keep you in my thoughts and prayers. Thanks for the update. |
Same as Destroyer said, hate to hear it, I can't imagine dealing with all that. Hang in there the best you can. |
Man that sucks. Hang in there. |
Praying that the Doc's figure something to relieve the pain and disability for you Ferm |

I'll give this one an update. As of today I have to be at the hospital Monday morning at 6:30 for surgery on my left shoulder. The 1st ortho I seen went off of the mri report because he couldn't get the disc from the radiologist to open and play. So he tried injections and such, but needless to say it continued to get worse. He said the only thing left was to scope it and see what was going on. Told him it was so close to the end of school, I needed to wait a few weeks for my wife to finish school so she could watch the kids(she's a teacher). Called back once my wife was done, and he was on vacation. So I decided to get a 2nd opinion. 2nd doctor looks at it(they used there software, just extracted the actual images off the disc because it wouldn't open for them either), says the radiologist misread the mri, and instead of having a large cyst(I still have alot of cysts in the muscle and joint), it was actually a large rotator cuff tear. So I've been dealing with this for months because somebody misread my mri. So dr #2 is going into my shoulder this monday. Decided to go with him as he is regarded as THE shoulder expert in this area, if not one of the best there is anywhere. As to my back, the spinal place I went to said I have numerous herniations, but none are to the point they can do anything. I have multiple annular tears, but again, none are to the point of being repaireable. They basically said it's normal wear, just accelerated for my age, said it looks more like the back of a 50-60 year old. I plan on getting a 2nd opinion on my back as well just to make sure, but the only thi,g they could say was causing my severe back pain was how I walk because of how bad my hip has gotten(basically said I should seriously consider an artificial hip so they can correct my leg length, and get it toed back in correctly as my foot is twisted out on my left side). So alot of stuff is wrong with me, but the only sure fire thing they can say is I simply wore myself out. Guess I'm paying the price for all those years they told me to take it easy, otherwise I would regret it later. |
Glad to hear that at least the shoulder is getting taken care of. The back sounds like it's all related to the hip, so that would be the next target in my book. Good chance that a lot of the back pains etc will heal themselves once the hip and leg are working in the way they are meant to. Hang in there Ferm. Prayers as usual are headed your way. |
Hopefully they can start by getting your shoulder straightened out. Then move on to your other ailments. |
Sounds like the second opinion was a good idea,,I hope Monday Goes well Ferm !! |
Wow. I had no idea. Sorry to hear of your troubles. Good luck on Monday and may God bless you and your family with positive results and clarity on your other ailments. |
Guess its like anything, they can't fix it unless they know what's broke. I know what its like to have the back of a 60 year old,so I empathize with you. Good luck, do what the docs tell you to do, try not to get hooked on netlix. |

Ferm, how did the shoulder operation go? I doubt you can type yet, but just asking for when you are able. Praying for you . |
It ended up not being as bad as was thought to be. The rotator cuff was fine, but I did have a torn labrem, torn bicep tendon, and multiplebone spurs(one of which was binding my shoulder up he said. So the recovery time won't be nearly as long he said. Right now the nerve block is still wearing off, so my arm just feels like a mass hanging off my side with occasional itches(that can't be scratched), and the occasional shooting surgical pain. Will no more after my visit next week when I can see the pictures of it he took. |
Good luck Ferm! Glad to hear recovery won't be as bad as you thought. |
High five, oops Sorry. Rest the shoulder Great news |
Good luck my friend, its a tough road you've been put on. |
That sounds like some much needed relief. Hang in there...V |
Good luck Ferm and a speedy recovery to you. God blessings always. |
