Kendall got to ring the chemo bell today at MUSC signifing the official end of chemotherapy for her(18 months). We donated the bell to MUSC last summer, I had a ships bell laying around and after my mother in law saw one at Johns Hopkins, we decided MUSC needed one.

Kendall is having a scheduled MRI tomorrow, nothing in particular, just a check up on her progress. My wife is pretty uptight about it, shes got that "feeling in her gut" that some things wrong. I've tried to convince her theres nothing wrong, but you know mothers, they have a sixth sense about their kids, I hope shes wrong. Keep Kendall in your prayers tonight. If this MRI is clear, it will be the fourth one since shes finished chemo

RWilson2526 08-30-2010 07:59 PM

Here's one comin' at ya! Got my fingers crossed too!

Hope all goes/went well with Kendall and as always she is in our prayers.

spareparts 09-01-2010 06:03 AM

well the results came back and I happy to say, my wife was wrong!!!!!(that felt good to say). There was no signs of any tumer or any new growth. What a relief. Its been roughly 6 months since the tumer was declaired gone. This will be her forth clear MRI. SHe'll have another one in about 3 months. The 6 month time frame was big for our family, as the tumer returned 6 months after her initial surgery back in 08. The next big milestone will be the two year mark. Thanks for all the prayers and well wishes.

Destroyer 09-01-2010 07:30 PM

Spare, being a relative newcomer to this site I didn't know anything about your daughter's fight until now. So when I read the last few posts of this thread I had to go back and read all of them from the very beginning. It was only then that I realized the tremendous pressure that you and your family have been under. Anyone can deal with good news, but I think it's the measure of a man when you see how well he handles bad news. In my book sir, you are a giant!!

I'm a pretty religious man actually. Kendal is now added to those that are in my prayers forever. And if anyone ever says they don't believe in God or the power of prayer, I'll simply point them to this thread. God bless you!!

Destroyer 09-01-2010 07:50 PM

PS.... The link to the picture of the bell is broken. I'd love to see it. Could you post it again please? Thanks !!!!!!!

lumberslinger178 09-01-2010 09:37 PM

congratulations to your family.

spareparts 09-02-2010 06:11 AM

Thanks

thanks for all teh prayers and well wishes. Ya'll don't know how much this group of boat nuts and this site mean to me. Back when Kendall was first showing signs of being sick and we didn't know what was wrong with her, they were trying to rule out alergeic reactions(it was first diagnosed as a GI issue). We had to feed her with a g-tube and a pump that went into her stomach(did this for a year). We had to mix up a hypoalergenic mush for the pump for her food. It took about 20 min for the stuff to pump into her stomach. I had first feeding and last feeding duties of the day. The last feeding would end up later than midnight. After the pump finished I would have to flush the lines and her G-tube before going to bed. If left un flushed, the mush would stop up the lines and back to the hospital we'd have to go, so it was imperative to flush her g-tube after every feeding. I spent a lot of time on the internet trying to stay awake so I'd flush the line when she was done. I was helping a good friend of mine with a Seacraft so I was on the Seacraft site alot. It amazed me the general attitude of the people on there, what a bunch of a-holes. I had come to expect it from our local fishing web site, but didn't expect it from dedicated boat enthusiast. One night I had some one I was advising about his mercruiser 165 6 cylnder. Don't know what set him off, but he posted a long drawn out line of dribble criticizing my spelling and grammer, apparantly he'd never heard of wind talking. It just hit me wrong, this guy didn't know anything about me or my family, or what we were going thru, I wasn't looking for sympathy, I was just sharing my 24 years of being a professional boat mechanic and was trying to give him some good advise. I was about to fall asleep typing, which would account for some of my spelling and grammer issues, but who cares? I started to flame his a$$ with a response, but just responded with "never mind". This was about the time I bought my V and had found this site, I never looked back. Sadly, I still haven't had time to finish my V(I did finish the Mckee though), but I enjoy posting on this site every chance I get. I've visited a bunch of boat sites, and am a memeber on several. I'd have to say this is the best group of people on any of them. My familly and I have been through quite a lot the past four years, its been a great for me to have a place to unwind. My self and my familly both appreaciate the support, prayers, well wishes, and general companionship of the V20 site. Thanks to all of ya'll.

PS, don't forget to visit the Caring Bridge, Couragious Kidz and Camp Happy Days sites.

Deystroyer, I'll see if I can find the pics to the chemo bell, my wife rotated them out of the pics on the caring bridge site.

willy 09-02-2010 06:59 AM

Good people here across the board, that is why I check it every day. You Spare, are one of them and I am so happy your family might get a little rest from the burden you have been carrying.

spareparts 03-03-2011 09:04 PM

Been a while since I've updated this thread. All of ya'll that read the caring bridge site are probably up to date. Febuary 23 was one year since Kendall finished chemo. man this year has flown by. She's doing good. She finally had a "normal" medical issue and had to have her tonsils taken out. I gave her the same BS talk my parent gave me when I had mine taken out as a kid, you know, "you can have all the ice cream you want after they take them out" yeah, like you can swallow anything after they take them out. She was supposed to have her first T-ball game this Saturday with the Summerville Miracle league, but she'll be on the sidelines mending her throat. We still have some issue with her back(wears a back brace at night), and she still suffers from exema flair ups, but other than a limp(wears a leg brace), you'd never know she has been thru what she has. Thanks again for all the well wishes and prayers, from the Hall familly.

charlie_the_tuna 03-03-2011 11:38 PM

thats the stuff! Good news all around. (except for the toncils, of course). Glad to hear.
