how long does 5200 fast cure take to cure?? i doweled my old mount holes saturday and drilled my new holes...i used "5200 fast cure" out of a tube..no mixing... and today it is STILL not hard...it feels like rubber...

all new holes i drilled the wood was nice and clean,fresh...but i did notice slight dampness in some of it..... its not rotten atleast so i'm gonna go ahead with it..if my transom falls off ,so be it..i'm missing striper and catfish season in my last winter in VA.

Hope you used hardwood dowels. I would have gone with two part epoxy and coated the holes and the dowels. I would've recessed the dowels and put a final layer of marinetex over the holes. Let set up, sand and finish.

yup i used hardwood... and yup i recessed them..but i filled the recessed area with 5200..was gonna wait till it hardened..then sand flush with gelcoat and then cover with marine tex....while the 5200 is rubbery..think i should drill out the recessed area that has 5200 in it now and fill it with marine tex?

all 5200 i ever used has stayed rubber like never gets hard enough to sand.

well dang i thought this stuff was supposed to be like cement when it hardens..i'm gonna drill out the recessed areas and fill it with marine tex then...

just trim it off with a razorblade and bolt the jackplate over it.

That 5200 is tough stuff, but like Skools said, Iv'e never seen it get hard. I think it's silicone based. Good stuff though. It makes a great permanant adhesive.

i ended up filling it with marine tex...yea its good stuff lol hard as hell to remove too.

If the Jack plate was going to cover the holes, then thats all I would have done.

If you going to see the holes then I would have gone marinetex.

That wood on the floor looked good to me!! I think you will be ok for a long time to come!

If still not sure, when you get the motor on there grab it from the lower unit while up in the air and try to move it around, if you hear cracking or the glass seems to be moving then you in trouble!!

Hit with rubber mallet and listen for dead spots, when the wood rots it will delamanate and sound hollow and might even move when hitting!

400# motor, any 150+ is going to be close to 400, so I tink you better stay with the power!
