Re: New Dive Platform
Well, didnt get nothing done, was a busy weekend with relatives hanging out for the weekend. I did manage to make up a template on how she will be looking. Decided to go with a 1" overhang all the way around.

Re: New Dive Platform
Hammer...what happens when ya turn motor hard to port and trim all the way up?...
|
Re: New Dive Platform
She clears all the way REEL, in th ePicture, it looks like the motor hits, but I have clearance all the way around in all positions when the motor is tilted.
I was gonna go wider and knotch around the lower unit, but it started giving me a migrain, so I just decided to go basic. ;D |
Re: New Dive Platform
I would NOT go 1" over at least on the motor side! Just go flush near the motor and it will be fine, no one will ever notice, and will give you a little extra!
|
Re: New Dive Platform
yeah i'd stay flush on motor side too but looks great are you going to enclose the platform
|
Re: New Dive Platform
LOOKING GOOD MAN, BUT YOU NEED TO POST SOME MORE PICS ::)
|
Re: New Dive Platform
SKOOL, not sure on what you mean about enclosing the platform. ??? ??? ???
I was gonna add a lip to the underside of the platform, so you wouldnt see the tubing, then router the corner. But I think I just might router the corner without adding a lip to the underside. I might also add a rail from the platform to the transom. |
Re: New Dive Platform
I agree, flush on motor side.
That's pretty "dope" man! |
Re: New Dive Platform
Don't make it any harder then you have to!! The frame looks great and always will go flush all the way around, just going to use more starboard to go all around and something to catch things on and rip off!
Simple looks good and works best! |
Re: New Dive Platform
Shoot man, thats so dope Whitney Houstons gonna be in your yard soon. 8)
|
Re: New Dive Platform
Starboard was ordered and will be here on friday. ;)
Decided to go Large. Using 3/4 starboard. Should be pretty Boss looking. *;D |
Re: New Dive Platform
Question is, will the water be warm enough to use the darn thing by then? ;D
|
Re: New Dive Platform
The temps are in the 60's. Its divable, but my dive gear is still waiting to be picked up from its yearly service. :-[
Lefty will have to start her own website to pay for my toys. *;D Starboard at 3/4" is weighing in at 23 pounds. :-/ I guess thats now my oversize trim tab. ;D |
Re: New Dive Platform
My starboard will be here on friday, does anybody know if a jig saw will cut 3/4 starboard ?? ???
|
Re: New Dive Platform
It will but my guess is that its not gonne be a really square edge. You dont have a circular saw?
Little tip...I like to cover my starboard with masking tape while Im marking and cutting it, then peel off and no scuffs! ;) |
Re: New Dive Platform
No square edge STINK, not sure if a jig saw cuts that deep. :-/
Need a band saw maybe. :-/ |
Re: New Dive Platform
Jig saw will cut that size.
Stink is right, don't you have a circular saw? Wally world should have one for cheap, or visit the B & D outlet. |
Re: New Dive Platform
Hmmm, a package arrived to for me. *;D
http://i47.photobucket.com/albums/f1...r/DSC02627.jpg Somebody out there must Love me. *;D http://i47.photobucket.com/albums/f1...r/DSC02628.jpg Jig saw did work well on cutting. http://i47.photobucket.com/albums/f1...r/DSC02629.jpg Checking out the fit. http://i47.photobucket.com/albums/f1...r/DSC02630.jpg Have clearance. http://i47.photobucket.com/albums/f1...r/DSC02631.jpg Sanded down the corners, but thinking of putting some kind of bevel edge on the end. But that more money out for a router and bit. :-/ http://i47.photobucket.com/albums/f1...r/DSC02632.jpg http://i47.photobucket.com/albums/f1...r/DSC02633.jpg Totally Monster House. *;D http://i47.photobucket.com/albums/f1...r/DSC02634.jpg What the hell, lets go custum. *;D http://i47.photobucket.com/albums/f1...r/DSC02635.jpg This is the last pic. for now. Cant do no more. Need a router, bit, plus a few bits, screws and some 5200 to mount her on. Also need to install the platform bracket for the dive ladder as well. http://i47.photobucket.com/albums/f1...r/DSC02636.jpg |
Re: New Dive Platform
Accepting free donations and labor to finish her up. ;D
|
Re: New Dive Platform
Thats a nice looking diving board you got there Hammer, but I think it will get in the way of fishing. ;)
|
Re: New Dive Platform
Not when your spear fishing. ;D
|
Re: New Dive Platform
I think before your done you will cut back that starboard from the motor!
And you are going to mount the ladder and have to much lip, I think I would trim it close, and round over with router bit. |
Re: New Dive Platform
With the staboard being 3/4", I guess there is a router bit that can do 3/4" curve ??? ???
Guess I'll be at Lowes checking out routers on Friday. |
Re: New Dive Platform

let me know i can bring anyone u want ;D |
Re: New Dive PlatformhAMMER
Hammer...3/8" to 1/2" roundover is all you need ... 3/4" bit on 3/4" material is too much ... if ya go that deep, you'll need a router table w/a fence to follow the edge...smaller bit w/ a roller tip will follow the edge of the material ... and look better INMHO ;) ...
|
Re: New Dive Platform
If I was going I would have brought all the stuff with me, I have the router and all the bits.
But Lumber has you covered!! I hoope he knows how to use it ;) ;D |
Re: New Dive Platform
Reel, your correct. I ran out to Lowes to just look...and seen that router bits are only 3/8 or 1/4 runover.
Well the starboard is in your corner now Lumber, show me what ya got. ;D ;D ;D ;D |
Re: New Dive Platform
I've got a 3/4" roundover I used for the panels under the dash... you can use if you want, but I think it's WAY too much for 3/4" material...
|
Re: New Dive Platform
Oh crap Hammer, send that stuff back....its not Starboard....its SEABOARD - you are soooooo screwed man!!
J/K ;D ;) 8) Looking good brother! |
Re: New Dive Platform
Starboard, Seaboard, whatever it is, It Stays. ;D
|
Re: New Dive Platform
Did you guys get that thing routered or what?
|
Re: New Dive Platform
No router. *:-[ :-/ :'( Guess I might have to pull out the credit card. Did a little more work today on it though.
Dive ladder bracket. http://i47.photobucket.com/albums/f1...r/DSC02661.jpg Mounted the black piece the wrong way. Didnt realize it until it was bolted onto the platform. I then couldnt undo the bolts, so i had to cut two off and redo. >:( http://i47.photobucket.com/albums/f1...r/DSC02662.jpg Bracket mounted on the platform. http://i47.photobucket.com/albums/f1...r/DSC02663.jpg Hmm, do I or Dont I like it. :-/ http://i47.photobucket.com/albums/f1...r/DSC02664.jpg Jig saw time. ;D Hoping it will look better when I get a router and do the edge. Somebody UPS me a router. ;D http://i47.photobucket.com/albums/f1...r/DSC02665.jpg |
Re: New Dive Platform
I let you know tomorrow if I'm coming down this weekend.
If I do , I'll bring mine along. ;) ;) And I know there are no commitments this weekend. |
Re: New Dive Platform
hammer, hopeyou have better luck with that type of ladder than i did. good idea, but the plastic steps did not hold up, especially with 200 lb divers & 50 lb of gear. when the plastic breaks off there are some wicked steps made out of metal with sharp teeth that point up so you can step on them. save some starboard to make some replacements. i went with the garlick style
http://i40.photobucket.com/albums/e2...y/POL_0341.jpg |
Re: New Dive Platform
Hammer, that's turned into a sport model and I'm going to remember it when I get to mine (much later).
Can you reposition the ladders mounting bolts to use the top of the ladder as a handle or you think it will get in the way? Naaah it will get in the way. ;) Cut hand holes in the Starboard or add a handle to the rear of the boat? |
Re: New Dive Platform
The guy who did the pipe work offered to build me a ladder instead of going with this one. When I do teh other side, I might have him add a custom ladder to the other side. Depending on the cost of course.
|
Re: New Dive Platform
Like it the way it is, functional for diving and fishing
|
Re: New Dive Platform
Once teh starboard is screwed down, I'll be adding on a boarding rail that will mount to the transom or on top of teh gunnel cap. Not sure yet.
