Re: Specs This is what the motor looks like after water pump, cleaning carbs, changing the fuel delivery and paint. http://i175.photobucket.com/albums/w...Picture041.jpg |

Re: Specs And not pursuing the Mariner was a couple of other stories. Come to find out Fred had put 4 pistons in it back when he had it. The last guy that had it (who died) put two pistons in it. We got to worring about all these replaced (burned) pistons, plus the fact the starter was dragging, knowing the carbs are varnished and the water pump needs replacing, a linkage is broken and if all is right with the world maybe only repainting the motor will get me in the water, not to mention the trim wires were bare. Couldn't help it, I'm partial to OMC or BRP or who ever they are this week. ;) ;) |

Re: Specs Great Job there!! |

Re: Specs You need to put some flames on that motor, then it will be set. |

Re: Specs Not that it has anything to do with this forum. Just got back from the emer vet. Two of my dogs had pinned a copperhead, so I killed it and threw it in the creek and checked the dogs. Well an hour later one was shaking a little. After looking at him closer surenuff he got bit. We've been living here over 24 years and have never seen a poisonous snake. Took him in, they treated him, 30 minutes and $228 less we back at the house. It never gets dull. Sorry no dead snake pictures or real good dog photo. |

Re: Specs Maybe I need some of his drugs, the dog looks goofy. My cousin three houses up found another one trying to greet him at his steps today. As you can imagine we returned the welcome with a hoe across his back. ;D |

Re: Specs Oh a couple of things not too terribly common we found removing the motor from the other boat. The power source for the electric fuel pump was derived from the harness where it passed by the tank. They intercepted the purple wire for constant hot when switched on. |

Re: Specs And this is one I haven't seen but is very interesting. |

Re: Specs I don't know yet if between removing the VRO system, installing the electric fuel pump, and whatever else they did to the boat what the reasoning was for the pressure gauge. The only thing I can figure is they must have overidden the warning horn problems with the oil injection by removing or disconnecting it thus the overheat warning portion would also be defeated. So what they did was intercept the peehole and run the tube to the console with the pressure gauge. I thought it was ingenius but I prefer the horn (even over a temp gauge). Having a pressure gauge and overheat warning horn would be nice. |

Re: Specs ;D HOT DAWG. I'm now a legal V owner. The registration finally showed up in the mail !! ;) :) ;D :P |

Re: Specs Trying to get the area's most critical to bolting motor, controls, steering and gauges cleaned up and remove old paint to be able to progress a little farther. |

Re: Specs Found this to be less abrasive on the gel coat but it only takes one layer of paint off at the time. http://i175.photobucket.com/albums/w...3/stripper.jpg |

Re: Specs Well when photobucket gets it's panties out of a wadd I'll finish. |

Re: Specs Stains like this and the gray colored Marine Tex to fill holes is the only rational reason I can find why they painted the upper deck only. http://i175.photobucket.com/albums/w...ki3/stains.jpg |

Re: Specs Here's the finish after buffing. http://i175.photobucket.com/albums/w...Picture052.jpg |

Re: Specs Yeah, I don't know if the sun and moon got in sync or if the tide farted. ;D But seems fine now. More to do,more to do,more to do. |

Re: Specs Not that there is any appreciable difference but decided to clean the deck a little. http://i175.photobucket.com/albums/w...Picture062.jpg |
|
Re: Specs http://i175.photobucket.com/albums/w...Picture063.jpg They had painted over the mildew and stains instead of cleaning the gelcoat. Once I remove the rest of the paint I can them clean and wax the gelcoat. It's proving slow. |
|
Re: Specs I'm sure it seems slow, but at least everything's there...all windshield components and sliding hatch...some of the guys have been lookin' for that stuff for years ;)... Once ya get all the old paint off, ya gonna go back w/new?...stock color?... |
|
Re: Specs None or I should say the original. So far once I strip the paint, clean or watersand the gelcoat then buff with a coarse rubbing compound and then wax, the finish is reasonablly acceptable. |

Re: Specs More and more getting tore out and refurbished. Drained and removed the tanks during the week and today bought the stuff to refit. |

Re: Specs Found out why one tank acted clogged. http://i175.photobucket.com/albums/w...Picture065.jpg Filter (now cleaned) and pickup tube full of trash. The other tank is perfect. |

Re: Specs As you can tell no great expense has been applied to most of this project. My initial goal is to get operational and then get a feel of what I might want to modify. |

Re: Specs i have the same tanks, and had the same problem, I got rid of the ball in there years ago!! If I could make a sugestion, On these old models they put the gas vents below the rub rail, well they all leak gas!! When you fill up they will splash out, when you going down the road and stop gas comes splashing out all over! This was a poor design!! and I am not alone, I have spoke with others that have had the same problem. What I did was disconect the oringal and left in place as not to have to fix the hole. Then added New 90* angle ones up higher on the Gunnel step up, Have never had another problem. Keep up the good work!! http://syncboard.com/albums/Boat-Tac..._041_Small.jpg |
|
Re: Specs Like MJ, I moved mine above the rub-rail also...mine was takin' on water in turns in any kind of seas...you might wanna keep it as for now, but 1st time you get water in your gas or you see a trail of gas runnin' from them, you'll wanna make this change ;) ... |
|
Re: Specs Thanks MJ an Reel. That's why I'm hesitant to made many changes at this point without having prior knowledge of problems to come. When daddy had the boat, instead of replacing the stuff and cleaning the tanks he just used a surface tank, so I'm sure he is unaware of the vent problem. Once I get it useable I'm sure to made other changes. Oh on ya'lls fuel gauge(s), did you have one or two? I was going to try this anyway, mine had one gauge and a three position switch. Basically, left tank, off, right tank. |
|
Re: Specs I had one gauge as you say, But they never worked right and I have no used a gauge in 8 years! I just know now, I do a 30 mile round trip, and maybe another 10 or 20 moving around tyrying different spots and when they day is done I have used 15 to 18 gal gas. Unless I went off shore, I have never used more then 1 tank of gas for the day. I also have a 3rd tank I put were the I/O use to be before I converted, Thats total 65 gal. |
|
Re: Specs I put two new gauges in for mine, but the single gauge/switch setup works great...just depends on what ya wanna do and how much room ya got... ;) ... |
