Well, I see 2 notches here. 1 factory and 1 "sawsall".

The factory notch is where it dips down in the middle. This of course, is to accomodate the 20" outboard.

The "sawsall" notch is on the left side of the factory notch in the picture. Just a guess, but looks to me someone notched out a couple of inches to allow the steering arm to fully extend when turning left. ???

First of all, I never said it was definitely "Factory".......if you look I said it could have been "necessary for the original power" (i.e. done at original power install).

If you look at "Davedowneast"'s post, his boat has the same exact notch and it is a '78.

I don't think someone "got too happy with a sawzall". *It was cut for a reason. *What that reason is, who knows.....who cares? * ???

It's a moot point anyway! *I never saw so much fuss about a "notch" in a transom of an almost 30 year old boat that needs a new transom anyway..... ::)

Blue Runner, you probably are right, and I already thought this. *However, on the current motor it is not necessary. *Probably was for the steering on the '77 200 that was on it originally. * ;)

The large "drop" IS factory most definitely! *Was setup for a short shaft from the factory, just as the brochure shows.

Re: '77 Wellcraft V-20 CC w/200 Merc in RI  SOLD!!

SOLD!! * ;D

Thanks, guys, for letting me put her on here also!

I'll still be checking in from time to time...never know, I may get one for myself to compliment my father's 26 Fortier sometime *:)

But for now I can be found at the helm of his boat (or the stern working the pit! :D)

Out of respect for the buyer, I'll just say he got a good deal on a good boat. She'll soon be trolling for bass at one of our long-time favorite spots again ;D
