Glad all is ok!!

I had a old boat that still used the cable and pully system.
One of the brass bolts that held one of the pullys broke and there went the sterring!! In the Cape Cod Canal.

I had to bear hug the motor and steer it back to the dock. While my buddy worked the throttle.
Replaced all brass bolts with Stainless the next day!!

IT'S A GOOD IDEA WHEN YOU HAVE NOTHING ELSE TO DO, FIX YOURSELF A DRINK AND CLIMB ON THE BOAT
AND START LOOKING AT EVERYTHING, IF YOU SEE SOMETHING YOU MIGTH THINK COULD GO WRONG, FIX IT, BECAUSE IT PROBABLY WILL.

IT'S ALSO A GOOD IDEA TO THINK IN ADVANCE FOR DIFFERENT SCENARIOS OF THINGS THAT COULD HAPPEN AND FIGURE OUT WHAT TO DO, BECAUSE WHEN THEY HAPPEN YOU ALREADY HAVE A PLAN.

I GET INVITED OFTEN TO GO FISHING WITH NEW BOAT OWNERS FRIENDS OF MINE, AND I'VE SEEING IT ALL, PEOPLE LAUNCHING BOATS WITHOUT THE PLUG, GONE FISHING WITHOUT WATER, PFD'S LOCKED INSIDE HATCHES. WHAT ARE YOU GOING TO DO IF YOUR BOAT SINKS IN A SECOND (BECAUSE THEY GO FAST!!!), IF YOU AT LEAST HAVE YOUR PFD'S LOOSE INSIDE THE CABIN, AT LEAST THEY WILL FLOAT, BUT INSIDE A LOCKED HATCH?

AND ALSO A TROWABLE PFD WITH A LINEYARD IS A GOOD IDEA, IF YOU HAVE A M.O.B. IT IS NOT A GOOD IDEA TO JUMP IN THE WATER AND LEAVE THE BOAT UNATTENDED (UNLESS YOUR FRIEND IS GOING UNDER)

ANYWAYS, GGOD TO HEAR THAT YOUR FRIEND IS OK!!!!

You did good.

I got pitched outta my 16' Bonita in the middle of Biscayne bay when I reached back to flick a fuel tank switch while underway. I only let go of the helm for a moment but, the boat turned hard right and out I went. No injury. Luckily I didn't get to engage the fuel switch so after 10 minutes of treading water the motor cut off.
Otherwise it would'a been a long swim home. :-[
