Re: ? on Installing setback bracket
The stainless bracket that racex has is the same bracket as I have. It weighs 130# and then a 150 outboard 390# = 520# off the back.
If done right it will last a life time!! I have had no issues with mine in the 3 seasons that I have used it!! But my transom was good and I filled the hole solid!! And just to be sure I had a bracket made for the inside that would spread the weight across the whole transom, It is made of 1/2 X 3" flat stock with 4 coats of ZRC to help with the rust, Haven't seen any rust yet!! ;D http://syncboard.com/albums/Boat-Tac...icture_016.jpg And I never trailer with out a transom saver!! |
Re: ? on Installing setback bracket
MJ I don't think my Armstrong aluminum bracket weighs any where near that much, I'd be surprised if it was over 65-70 lbs.
And MJ is right, if the transom is solid should be more than strong enough. Been putting them on boats for a long time now. That is also why I think a sea drive boat is a great candidate for a bracket, original from the factory has a very small hole made for the passing thru of controls and fuel lines, very little chance for water entrance into wood, generally sealed very well from the factory and the full transom is largely intact. |
Re: ? on Installing setback bracket
I never weight my bracket, but I have thre swim platform and when I called Stainless they told me 130#??
What ever, it works ;D |
