nope, i found it. i figured it fell between the deck boards so i removed a few of them and hunted for what felt like an eternity. after i gave up and reassembled my porch i found it cleverly hiding inside the starter. so i put it back together and reinstalled it. did what schools said and turned her over while oiling her down. still got a little rough spot on the bottom starboard cylinder. by rough i mean not extremely smooth. when i run my finger over it it feels like 1400 grit sandpaper. i hope this will be acceptable cause to hone it will require removal of the powerhead to get to it.
talk to me skoolz. whats next?

put new head gaskets and the heads back on and test your compression. then post the readings. if good i'll say crack her up and see what happens.

what about the carbs? i will prob have to rebuild them, huh? or should i do that after compression test? tx

k, i got the heads back on. this thing doesnt have head gaskets. just o-rings. at any rate, i bought a cheapo compression guage at auto zone. hooked a fresh battery up to the starter and went at it. for some reason the motor turned over real slow and i was only getting 30 to 40 pounds per cyl. just to see what would happen, i pulled one plug from the other side and tried again. motor turned much faster, still pretty slow though, and reading jumped to 75 pounds. then it started to rain so i gathered my tools and came in. anyway, i gotta ask, how do you test compression on an outboard? should i pull all the plugs?

pull all the plugs out and test the motor turning it over till the gauge raise's no more.

not lookin good for team no-bucks. port side, top to bottom, 90-115-90. starboard side, top to bottom. 120-120-110. seems wierd cause i ran the test three timesand those two 90's cameup from 75. wondering if i didnt turn over the motor enough with the heads off. probably just wishfull thinkin. watcha think skoolz?tx

When testing give it full throttle, open the carbs up. I'm assuming it has carbs! Billy Mac ;D

if it had rust in the cylinders it will take time to get it's compression back. Treat it as a new motor run it on premix with double oil in the mix. Run it on a hose till it gets warm at idle and middle rpm's like idle up to 2000 to 2200 for a couple min then back to idle. Once warm. Turn off let cool. test compression. the run again same way till it gets warm then test compression warm tell us you results then. Sounds fine to me for a submerged motor.
