Re: fuel tank

Ya know, I came home today and took off the deck cover for the tank. I didnt smell any gas at all. The fill and vent hoses are brand new. The tank is topped off full. I have been working under a cover, so that may have something to do with it.

I am gonna run the boat in the spring before I decide to do anything. The smell that I did encounter is not strong, and could be from the fill line when it was replaced. I f I have no probs then I can worry about it later. If My bilge pump starts pumping gas this season, or if it smells like a Texaco, I'll doo something about it then. Until then, I'm gonna seal the cover down, replace the acess ports and call it a day.

Re: fuel tank

Was your cover over your gas vent thru hull? The odor may not have anywhere to escape but inside the boat.

Fillet...just keep in mind that gas fumes SINK...they do not rise...w/your cover on they have no breeze or air movement to remove them from your hull...I would hate to read about "Fillet Go POOF" :o on the board...

What Reel said!!

To many boats go Bang!! not because the gas but the fumes!! I have above floor tanks and still run a blower before I turn the key!!

I read about blowers in the old manual that came with my boat. The manual also said not to over fill the fuel tank. But I dont have any blowers. Where did they go?

Re: fuel tank

Blowers are a very important safety feature and any boat that has gas tanks in enclosed spaces should have one. They are relatively inexpensive (around $20-30) and a breeze to install.
OK, I'm off my soapbox now ;)
