Re: The Fat Lady is singing right now!!
I don't know Tin, I too have had 52 years of seasons. I do like them and have lived elsewhere for short times in different climates.
But I think that what I would prefer is the seasons without the extended cold like you would get in southern NC and south to northern GA. Especially if you are in hilly country there such as northern GA foothills. I am actually considering a trip down there to scope out some properties for a winter retreat in a few years. Going to try and do the semi-snowbird thing. Something small up north for the spring summers and fall and a winter thing down there. I am having some problems deciding whether to go a little warmer and closer to the coast of GA or the interior and big fresh water impoundments there and southern SC. As a matter of fact if any of you guys know those areas I would appreciate your imput on my idea. Only thing I know for sure is I want to be on the water, sweet or salt I like both |

Re: The Fat Lady is singing right now!!
I've only had less than 30 years of seasons, but was stationed in the Arctic. While I was sitting there in a fighting hole dug into the Norwegian hard pack I made the decision never to be cold again! Of course then they sent me to the desert ???
Beaches and blue water for me now, never looking back. I'll visit the seasons! |

Re: The Fat Lady is singing right now!!
Talked to one of my closest friends in Baton Rouge LA last night. He said he had to go out and turn on the lights in the greenhouse it was going down to 34. But usually he is in a t shirt or maybe a long sleeve t shirt most of the year.
But I don't like his summers, hot and so muggy you can slice it. Then every day around noonish a torrent comes down for ten minutes and drenches everything and disappears as fast as it came. Anyone live in Georgia near the South Carolina border. Always thought that would be a sweet area. |
Re: The Fat Lady is singing right now!!
Willy, the second town (exit) north of the GA/SC border is a great place. I want to say the name is Ridgemont, but I won't swear to it. It's about 30 minutes inland of Hilton Head. I need to poke around the area a little more, but it seems like a great place. We pass through a couple times a year and always stay there. Great little restaurant called Jaspers Porch, right on this little lake. Great food, great atmosphere and great people. We plan to vacation in the area in the next few years. Just seems like were always going to Disney.

Re: The Fat Lady is singing right now!!
We've been in the area from early Nov tpo late Feb. IT's far enough south that it gets cool but not fridgid. I'd say the winter there are like October in Jersey. I remember one trip when it was 35 or so in the morning and the locals were terribly upset about how cold it had gotten.
