I don't have alot of 4 stroke experience(I'm a 2 smoker kind of guy), but everybody I've talked to about propping them said you want them with a light to average load to spin right up to the max rated RPM, or an extra 100. My skiff propped from the factory spun up to almost 6200, and it's rated range is 5000-6000. I propped it so it spun up to 5600 and it just felt doggy, and top end was a bit low, repropped to hit 5900-6100, and it's a completely different boat. The 15" prop will allow you to plane at slower speeds and lower rpm's, hold better in a chop without blowout, and normally pull heavier loads better, but you do lose some top end mph. I've always run a large diameter on a boat that could see rough water just for the better bite and hold as it was not that often that I was able to run hammer down in a chop, so I enjoyed the advantages for the few disadvantages.

We were able to get Dave's 18 foot Nitro bass boat to 47 mph gps at 6200 rpm, but we couldn't go WOT without overreving, so he needs more pitch.
Shep, I sent you a pm. |
Prop's in the mail.

got it ! you are the man ..I want to try it out this week ..If I can skip out of work early one day i'll report back with #s . If not this weekend
Thank you ! |
Good deal. I really think that you are in for a treat, it will be like getting a new boat.

ok so I made it out yesterday and hit 5400 rpm and 32 mph with the throttle hammered . I thought about it last night and this morning I adjusted the throttle cable at the motor. I couldn't adjust it too much without getting the idle turned up to high but did manage to get 5600 to 5700 rpms and 35mph . I was expecting a little more but didn't have anymore throttle to give it .. Could my cable be worn out ? It seems like I could get more RPM if I had more throttle. Or am I expecting too much out of the motor ? Again im ok with 30 mph. I don't need anymore speed ,at this point im just messing around .
Randleman , How much you want for the prop ? Or would you rather I send back ? You can PM me we don't have to negotiate in public . Thank you for letting me use it ! |
I was expecting you to be able to hit 6200 rpm and close to 40 mph. Could be something is going on with the cable itself or the adjustment. Or maybe your boat is that much heavier than mine or your motor is mounted lower than needed...there are many factors.
I will PM you about the prop price. |
Clearly that 15x21 was the wrong prop but I would have expected the 14 x 19 would get over 6K wot and trimmed up.
The V21s are set back a foot so your motor should probably be higher than a V20. Maybe a V21 guy can give advice on motor height relative to the keel. You sure you are not heavy from waterlogged foam? How does it sit in the water with no one in it? Scuppers high and dry? |
