I was just reading about electric water pumps and how the are necessarily not a good thing....could this be why he wasn't getting any temp reading over 80 on the dash? Do you think electric water pump is a bad thing. I remember when I originally posted that someone said is the engine suppose to have an electric water pump?

electric water pump for your engine????? It shouldnt have one, Lets start all over, what kind of engine do you have?

should have a belt driven or crankshaft driven raw water pump, I doubt an electric pump could keep it cool at high rpms

Update... So owner paid to have carb completely redone because it was hesitating really bad on test run. Today, they went to run it and had a knocking vibration. Sounds like the engine is done. Owner said I can have the whole thing for 2k but I don't know how much it'll cost me to repower? What are yalls thoughts on this one. Should I just walk?

Engine was supposedly rebuilt but I'm thinking upper was done but not the lower. I was just checking eBay for some prices and it looked like cheapest was about 3500? That sound right? Or no

You can get engines for a good bit less if you know how to shop for one. The question is, can you install it, or do you need somebody else to do it. Keep in mind when you're figuring the cost, most shops are goign to charge you big $$$$ to do one. They know how much work is going to be involved in getting all those rusted up bolts and such broke loose, releveling the engine, and everythign else that will go into it. I could easily see you spending $5K if you have to pay somebody else to do this by the time it's all said and done. This could easily be more or less as there are so many variables that are unknown until you get in there. I would say his price is to high if it has engine problems because then you're also taking a gamble on the outdrive and everything else that you can't test run before buying.
