With the setback I have the motor as high as it will go and maintain water pressure. My spare prop is a Tempest 14.5 x 23p and is the fastest prop I have, light load turning 5900 rpm 60.1 mph. The motor is a stock 250 XS Merc. I think 250 is about where it is at for hp. The old 250 EFI had a better power to weight ratio so it was faster, retired because it used twice as much fuel. The best I ever saw was 63.1 upwind, down current with the 23p Tempest on the limiter. It dawned on me later that I could have had a 2 to 3 MPH current that day..

None of these top end numbers are very efficient, lots of prop slip. My MPH could be much better if I shed the T-top and baitwell/leaning post combo. That has got to be costing me some efficiency.

Might even go faster if you jumped overboard to reduce some weight after getting it fully trimmed out ?

Definitely faster without me.
300 has been considered.
Wonder what a 280 would do with the right prop? That would be interesting especially with 2 hung back there.. Hang em right on the transom. I am fairly sure twins would negate the effect of the round keel and reduce the propensity for chine-walk.

Spare, 2.4 what? Twin Bridgeports would be ERA correct.. Cool would be the Twin Towers of Power 1500xs.

I keep wondering what twin 1150's would do (knowing I could later swap in bigger powerheads) but honestly I think I'd rather just have a much more modern engine even if I didn't get as much top speed

Ridge, you said the boat ran 48 with teh 2.4 200, what prop were you running on it at the time?

BTW, if stumble across a twin of my brown stripe 200, i might have to get a bracket and run the pair, it would be fun. Marc posted some video of his Seavee running across the harbor running round 70, those choppers he's running make a nice rooster tail

17P Quicksilver to about 6100 RPM 48MPH IIRC. (Don't tell Ozzie) I posted it way back when.. 5800 with the 19p Quicksilver at about 46mph. The motor was sound when he got it. LOL!

spareparts 08-29-2013 07:23 PM

my V showed up with a small ear 21 on teh 2.4 200, I've never put the boat in teh water, I'm curious to what it will run, if it doesn't run fast enough, I'll throw another motor on it

I just ordered a NOS 150 shot for the E-TEC---

Figure the way the hp vs speed is working---should be able to switch from my 19p to a 23p chopper and hit in the neighborhood of 70+

I think a Superboat would run 70+ with my current engine. Looking for a cheap interesting go-fast hull for the 250 I have in the barn. I been down the Nitrous road Genie. Word association = Pistons. The first time you mash the button and nothing happens because your tank is empty, Waa Waa Waaaaaaaa. Exhilarating blast for sure, let us know how that works out. Pics too if you please. Hell you will probably be too busy cleaning fish to do the install, we understand.

Spare, just go ahead and build the twin powered 20 you know you want to.

BTW- Nearly a complete derail but-- Anybody got their eye on the Louis Vitton/America's Cup boats. The new style hydrofoil cats with the semi-solid wing. Holy crap I bet that is a rush to have a 14,000 lb boat rise up on the surfboard size foils and utterly take off. They are doing 40knts in a 23knt wind ?? Talk about using leverage to harness the wind.

Marc was talking about selling his super boat the other day. He took it out for a spin, hit 86 with the home brewed 300 3.0l. Said he's gonna keep it now

Genie Aye 09-02-2013 01:16 AM

I would not do nos--I learned many moon ago about that--lol=$$

I am way to happy the way it is--if I want to go that fast I will go out on my buddy 38 fountain--103+--crazy
