Skools Out: When I was a kid in Kansas the 750 Norton wranglers and Harley Sportsters were the real deal .All the bikes in those days were very weak magnito lights and kick starts. One night 4 of us all wined up after drinking all night were flying along around 90 or so when a young buffalo calf jumped right out in front of us and slipped on the pavement..3 of us zigged and the other guy zagged and hit it square on and never knew what hit him..I kept riding until earlier this year when I started having cramps in my right hand so I sold Harley number 7 and never looked back..I'm glad they did not have crotch rockets in those days or I would of killed myself for sure...Frank

Re: 22 OFFSHORE

spent twenty years riding, two years allover europe and the rest all over the states and canada. Love it. Two decent accidents though, neither my fault, one, the last one a guy made a left in front of me on my suzuki 1100,, I went sideways into his passenger door. Totaled his door and my helmut crushed his door frame top and the roof line was crumpled in.
I bought another bike, suzy gs 850. decent bike but had two close calls with it, again neither my fault. One my CEO was on with me. I managed to ride thru both but it was close.
Then one day on the way home at about 60 on the highway the rear tire decided for unknown reason to blow out in a hundred little pieces. I went side to side so hard and so fast for at least a quarter mile. Rode it to the end kept it up. Got the bike towed to the dealer and replaced the rim(toast) and tire and picked it up a wekk or two later.
I'm not saying I was scared to ride. Kept the bike for another two years and rode occassionaly. But I always had in the back of my mind that I had done everything right and still got f@cked up twice and almost a third time for reasons beyond my control.
When my second was born I decided it was time to go. I've ridden a few times since, on others bikes but it just ain't the same for me.
I would much rather have a nice drop top, corvette, beemer, austin healy. Something with four wheels and brakes, sheet metal all around and a top that can go up when it gets too cold or wet.
Maybe if I lived in Arizona or New Mexico or SoCal I'd consider it again but likely not. The drop top would be just fine.

Re: 22 OFFSHORE

There is no wiggle room with bikes and there are too many idiots on cell phones on the road these days that never watch the road. The bikes these days are way too powerful in my opinion and can easily get away from ya..Last year some young marine riding a souped up crotch rocket T-Boned an oak tree in Emerald Isle and they think he was doing in excess of 120 . I used to ride with the deputy who was first on the scene and he told me that the guy was nothing but mush and even his father could not make a positive ID...When I was younger of course I never thought about these things...Frank
