Re: Whats The Trick

Well if you are sure you want to paint the bottom at least use something like Interlux VC-17

Yeah Amn Mulv. Here the weather will be nice this weekend. Looking forward to getting some work done on the boat. Will be showing up with a gallon of white hull paint and not antifoul paint. Hopefully that will make things clear in the boat yard as to what I want done.
Still need to sand the deck and paint on that Tuff Stuff antiskidd paint. Wife will be out of town as well, so thats the whole weekend to work. No rain !!

Re: Whats The Trick

For the love of god don't paint that boat. If it's anything like it looks in the pictures it needs nothing more than a compound and wax. Guys, it looks like maybe an intervention is in order. I hope to go up Friday or Sunday w/ a trailer for him. Maybe I can talk to him about this paint.

Re: Whats The Trick

Just finished night shift, Wanted to work on it today, but slept the day away and still abit chilly. Weekend is suposed to be better.
As far as paint goes for the hull, I picked up the book at West Marine and has paint for the hull that can be brushed on and looks like a spray job ?? anybody ever use this stuff before. The hull has ALOT of dings here and there. Figured if I repaired at the dings, it might look like a boat with a bad case of the chickin-pox. ;D

Re: Whats The Trick

If your painting because of dings try some gel coat repair from here: http://minicraft.com/

Paint that hull and you are going to get keel hauled from us all ;D

Re: Whats The Trick

:-/ Finally got up the nerve to post.

I was wondering, since the topic of anti-foul came up, the guy who owned my boat before me put the anti-foul on. Is there a way to take it off???

My V20 is mostly on trailer being in and out of the same water all the time. Whne I wash off, the anti-foul just makes a mess of the un-coated surfaces, so I would just like to remove it.

Re: Whats The Trick

parish check the search engine for this subject, been discussed a few times including with me.
the jist of it is this, you can remove it with chemical stuff of different manufactures with varied degrees of difficulty for all of them. but with all of them it is a ball bustin time consuming job and you need to wear eye and skin protection. it is the preferred way to do it if you wish to preserve the general gel coat shine and finish of your original hull.
the other alternatives are to have it soda sand dry ice blasted, obviously less or no work on your part but expensive at least in my area 600 - 1000 on our size boats. other drawback is afterwards you really need to paint the hull with one of the good clear or white barrier coat type paints as the gel coat does not have the same outer finish
you pays your money and you make your choices ;)

Re: Whats The Trick

Thanks for the info.

Whchever method I try to remove the anti-foul, it will not matter that I take off the bottom coating, there are some big gouges I need to fix.

It is a sad story how I acquired the boat.
I have a trailer in Lewes Del.
Neighbor in park's wife has cancer.
Life changing event for him.
Sold me the boat because he knew I would be able to take care of the boat and use it like he did.
