Re: Skool's V20 Rebuild starts

well first i fix this boat yesterday, i completely rewired the boat and replaced all the rubber seals and a freeze plug, adjusted the valves, the motor starts right up and runs perfectly now the lower unit seals were fine. So you see it's sitting outside waiting on it's new lounge seats.

Whats up with that large hole in the plash well with the raised lip. Was that a factory ??? or a custom job to get access to the batteries ??
Looking good though. Have a jelly donut on me. 8)

Re: Skool's V20 Rebuild starts

I love it. I see you keep everything neat and in order as your doing a project just like I do. I can tear up the garage just replacing the spark plugs. Me in a buddy spent all this time checking and lining up the place to install out rigger holders. We finally made the cut and while drinking a beer started looking for the holder that we had just had in our hands. After about an hour of looking and a few more beers I went into the house to take a leak and there they sat right beside the toilet.

From a 225 to a 140 thats a big swing in HP. I have a 150 Johnson which pushes my v 20cc around very good and tops out around 45mph. Is the 140 a 4 or 6cyl?

bradford 07-24-2007 06:57 PM

Re: Skool's V20 Rebuild starts

I wish i had a choice between the 140 and 225! *I'd run the 140 and experiment with different props, it should do fine.

Heck, if you're gonna sell it, give the buyer the option!

spareparts 07-25-2007 12:02 AM

Re: Skool's V20 Rebuild starts

if that 140 is the big looper 4 cyl, then it will probably push that boat pretty good. the only problem I had with teh loopers is idle quality, ended up taking that plastic i9dle speed screw all the way out on my old 120 looper, the 140 should have adjustable idle mixture scews so it won't be such an issue

Skools Out 07-25-2007 02:15 AM

Re: Skool's V20 Rebuild starts

4 cylinder big bore looper they are all 1990's i have 4 of them. they are the exact same as a 120 only the intake and jets are different.

Stillrunning 07-25-2007 05:04 PM

Re: Skool's V20 Rebuild starts

My father-in-law has an Evenrude 112 and it pushes his 20 sea pro pretty good but man it sounds like crap. It sounds like a sewing maching.

Re: Skool's V20 Rebuild starts

Skool, when you redid the transom, did yu replace it from the inside or outside. *???

Looked at the earlier pics of you removing the floor.
Ok, you have a top skin of flooring, then wood, then another bottom layer of glass. I noticed that you laid it back into the V after yanking all the rotted wood in.
So my question is...do you glass in the bottom layer to the stringers ?...how do you secure it ?? or after you wet in the new wood, the top deck will be the only thing securing it ??

Skools Out 07-26-2007 07:05 PM

Re: Skool's V20 Rebuild starts

you throw that bottom layer away ijustlayed it inthe boat to have something to walk on

Skools Out 07-29-2007 07:11 PM

Re: Skool's V20 Rebuild starts

sorry guys only worked on the boat today for about 3 1/2 hours but here's what got done.

Holes that i had ground i filled with glass and resin

http://i8.photobucket.com/albums/a46...MVC-010S-4.jpg

http://i8.photobucket.com/albums/a46...MVC-011S-4.jpg

Here's the old transom light hole and the 2 side rod holes someone cut out in bad locations, i filled with plugs of wood i made fit tightly in the holes

http://i8.photobucket.com/albums/a46...MVC-002S-5.jpg

http://i8.photobucket.com/albums/a46...MVC-004S-5.jpg

http://i8.photobucket.com/albums/a46...MVC-012S-3.jpg

Here are those holes above after i glassed over them and filled with resin in the voids

http://i8.photobucket.com/albums/a46...MVC-013S-3.jpg

http://i8.photobucket.com/albums/a46...MVC-014S-3.jpg

http://i8.photobucket.com/albums/a46...MVC-017S-4.jpg

This is a cracking issue that i had in a corner but it was actually only in the gel coat but i glassed and filled anyway

http://i8.photobucket.com/albums/a46...MVC-016S-3.jpg

http://i8.photobucket.com/albums/a46...MVC-015S-3.jpg

notice the top of the transom i epoxy coated with filler to make smooth before i glass over the transom with a layer of glass.

Re: Skool's V20 Rebuild starts

I test drove a V-20 center console with a 94 140 on it(large gearcase, finger port motor I believe). It had plenty of get up and go I thought, felt like a good match. You can always tweak that 140 a little if needs be to ;D.

Skools Out 07-30-2007 02:01 AM

Re: Skool's V20 Rebuild starts

i say don't use Hammer

Thanks Ferm i wondered if anyone had been on one with a 140 but the CC is lighter than the cuddy

THEFERMANATOR 07-30-2007 12:10 PM

Re: Skool's V20 Rebuild starts

I know a 140 is the way I am going on my V-20 CUDDY(when I finally can get to it). It currently has an 83 1.6L SEA-DRIVE on it(115 powerhead rated) and it will get on plane without issue, but top end is a bit lacking. If you consider though my sea-drive is around 100HP propshaft, a 140HP propshaft rated engine would do nicely.

V20Twin 07-30-2007 04:15 PM

Re: Skool's V20 Rebuild starts

i had a 140 looper on my cuddy at one time it would cruise about 26 top end 34 mph
