Re: Gas Prices
Well, Pipe, if you've read my posts B4 re politics, you know it's nothin' to do w/ Dems vs Reps...I think they're ALL a bunch of $$-grabbin' sleaze-bags...gas will never be back to where it was 2 yrs ago, but I believe it could be a lot lower than it is... if pressure was put on suppliers, speculators and refineries (why aren't all refineries on line?...there's a bottle-neck that's causing low supply-side)...if there's a lot of face-changein at lower levels in govt, it'll send a clear message on up the line to start applying that pressure...the recent increases we're dealin' with...typical summer-time jack-up been happenin' for years and driven by pure greed...they can trot out all the "excuses" they can think of, but it's the old ''hit they're wallets while you can'', plain and simple...
I know we're dealin' w/ a global economy like never B4...''emerging'' nations are in line for petroleum and there's not any more cheap oil relatively easy to access, so I understand increases, but there's a ''den of thieves'' mentality that's fueling the fire of whopping profits at every level and I believe influence from US could affect it... I think $2/gal can be justified...the 3rd $ is greed and that can be controlled... |
Re: Gas Prices
I hear you and don't disagree at all. I know this topic has come up a lot on another board I visit, a board that has lots of folks from Canada, Europe and even Aussies and New Zealand-ers on it. We get no sympathy from those folks, I can tell you. They've been paying a lot more at the pump for a long time. I can't help but wonder if Big Oil is simply experimenting -- seeing just how high they can drive the prices before Americans really react, and how they react. I read a piece somewhere the other day about how a segment of the US population will continue to drive big SUVs even at $4/gallon. Yeah it will hurt, but they'll do it anyway. I am one of them -- my rig is long paid for, I need it for hauling dogs and gear, and the occasional V-20 tow, and I'm not going to sell it and get a payment book because of fuel prices. Besides, we can always use the wifey's Honda when we aren't hauling loads. ;D
I'm all for shaking up Washington DC, but I just don't think it will do much for the price of gas. But I'd be happy to be wrong in this case! ;) |
Re: Gas Prices
New said this morning that the senate is talking about Taxing the Oil Co. if they make to much profit??
What the hell does that do for us?? Your right!! they going to push as hard as they can to get as much as they can!! This is also showing us that there is a huge profit margin in gas!! They have always said no, but look at the money in profit they making in dispite of war, storms, broken rigs, ect, ect... And them people working the rigs are not there for $7 a hour eaither! |
Re: Gas Prices
That is right Joe , a wind fall tax will only be passed on to us . Think Pipe is on to it as well . The oil co's / producers don't want the prices too high , then useage will fall and we will find something else to burn . I think that they looking to find that level and then settle in just below it . I do hope that they are close !

Re: Gas Prices
Tax big oil profits!...THAT'S the kind of thinkin' we need to get rid of...there are so many things wrong w/ that we ain't got room here to list 'em...every congress-person in favor of that should be tarred & feathered & rode outta town backwards on a mule... :(...

Re: Gas Prices
Pipe that's an excellent explaination of exactly what I've been referring to re politicians CONTROLLING the price at the pump...you don't have to read between the lines to see that both supply and demand are being MANIPULATED by our elected officials... ;) ::)...
