Re: Project No. 1 Updated
clean out all the old wood then get either west system epoxy or MAS epoxy and mix it to harden slow. smother the new wood bottom and sides with epoxy then pour some in the transom hole and use a small roller to get the glass wet inside. then drive the new wood in and clamp at the top several times. wait about 3 days till it's dry and then cap the transom with new glass. it's not to hard. best is to use an electric chain saw without bar oil. that way nothing to cause the epoxy to delaminate.if you were to cut through the out side of boat it will not hurt except the paint job. but if so just glass ove the cut after you get the new wood in.

Re: Project No. 1 Updated
Skool, back when, I used to go to Spartanburg Dragway most Saturday nites...one nite, Richard Petty showed up w/a MAXED-OUT Cuda; went head-to-head w/another old stocker named Cotton Owens (from Sptbg) in a Dodge Dart station wagon w/a 426 Hemi mounted behind the driver's seat...they ran several times...it was GREAT racin' action!!...we were back in the pits after one of those runs; Petty jumped outta the Cuda, madder than h-ll, sayin', "Pull them GD carbs off and give me somethin' that'll RUN!!"...he had just SMOKED Owens and I think set a new track record in the class...

Re: Project No. 1 Updated
Just imagine what you could do if you had my job!!
I go to work at 10pm for the State of MA. I work a 10 hour shift, but I sleep at least 6 of them hours, sometimes more ;D I get out at 8am ready for the world!! And I only work 4 days a week, with 14 holidays, 2 weeks vacation, 120 hours sick time, 3 personal days a year! Its a tuff job but someone has to do it!! |
Re: Project No. 1 Updated
Glad I ain't payin' taxes in the state of MA... ;D...CB, did it ever occur to you that you're SUPPORTING MJ?...can you use him as a deduction? ;D...
|
Re: Project No. 1 Updated
Admit it Rap, you Jelious!! of my job and CB!! :-*
|
Re: Project No. 1 Updated
Oh trust me RAP. The thought occurred to me more than once. And he's not the only one either.
I don't get to sleep on the job like MJ, but I do have a pretty good schedule too. Three 12 hour nights. They pay you for 40 hours and you're done for the week. That is excluding any overtime of course which I'll typically do one day a week at least depending on weather or what not. |
Re: Project No. 1 Updated
Today doesn't look like a good over-time kinda day, then... ::)...
MJ, jealous only if you're field-testing supermodel thingy-tang for the governor... ;) ;D... |
Re: Project No. 1 Updated
I am Jealous at the fact that I work so little, and have not fished all summer!! and the V20 stayed on the trailer all summer!! :'(
Whats wrong with this picture CB?? We work the least and fish the least?? We going to have to get are priority's straight by next year!! |
Re: Project No. 1 Updated
MJ why was it on the trailer all summer, I can't remember from the posts?
|
Re: Project No. 1 Updated
I had some real problems this whole year starting in Jan. with my wife's health.
After 3 hospital stays 3 operations, She is just now starting to walk again with the help of a walker. So I had to put boating on the back burner for now. But the fish better watch out next summer, I have a year of frustration coming to the in the spring!! |
Re: Project No. 1 Updated
Sorry MJ I knew there was a health problem, but I thought she was doing much better late in the summer. Those fish just got bigger thats all. I think you got your priorities just right ;)

Re: Project No. 1 Updated
Lord Skools, I wonder if maybe some day you could take a photo sequence of the blocks onto trailer trick. I'm training to be a magician like you someday.
In terms of bogus jobs, I work on a ferry. We have time off in between runs to polish, change gear oil, clean the windshields, and so on. The owners don't know that to do all of that would only take 45 minutes, so we end up going home, or taking her out for "sea trials" which consist of anchoring and swimming. |
Re: Project No. 1 Updated
LOL well Eric you're in Luck
I just bought a new Trailer for my 19 ft Sea Ox. going to get it tomorrow so I'll take photo's of me draggin it on the trailer. I may drag it on tomorrow or wait till next week. Shouldn't take more than 15 or 20 mins to do. |
Re: Project No. 1 Updated
Well got the trailer home tonight and i might load it tomorrow before i go to the beach. Shouldn't take over 20 min. Will get some pics Eric.
Blocks to Trailer 101 lol. |
Re: Project No. 1 Updated

Re: Project No. 1 Updated

|
Re: Project No. 1 Updated
I'm working on capping the transom on my V20 just like a did this one. I want the V20 transom to be high and dry. No cheap looking metal to cap trim. Been there and water killed that so i'm sealing her up this go around.
|
Re: Project No. 1 Updated
Yeah, I HATE that metal cap, too :P ...looks cheap, half-assed and I know it's trappin' H2o... :-/...
|
Re: Project No. 1 Updated
My transom doesn't have the metal cap, has a plastic cap and it is glass under the cap. But the plastic cap is riveted on...why??? I believe this is factory, anyone else with a 1990+ hull can confirm?
|
Re: Project No. 1 Updated
Tin i hate to tell you but unless someone has worked on your transom and glassed it in like this it will have a seam under that cap. That's where the cap and the hull meet and they covered them with a either plastic strip or older ones metal. That's the main reason the older boats got rotten transoms.
|
Re: Project No. 1 Updated
skools, you lost me??? The cap meets the hull where the notch of the transom is? I'm talking where the motor is mounted. Looks like the cap ends at the uppermost part of the transom.
|
Re: Project No. 1 Updated
there will be a seam where the hull bottom and the boat's hull cap meet under that plastic strip. The older boats all had one until the last 5 to 8 yrs.
