Re: Pulpit question
I feel like STINKY paying a fortune on bolts. 10 bucks for 5 bolts. >:(
|
Re: Pulpit question
Dam Hammer, thats one fine package, and the roller looks nice too brother. ;D
I just got back from Salisbury, with new LED Nav lights as posted, plus a chain tensioner, and a few other goodies. I've got to come to OC Monday around 5 for a meeting, so I may slip on up then. I'll bring quarters ;D |
Re: Pulpit question
Damm, you remember the quarters. ;D
Not sure of my schedule for Monday, if not busy we can meet, or you can help paint the lower unit. ;D |
Re: Pulpit question
Looks good!!
Hey what year is your boat? On the 70's there is a 3/4 lip around the bow, thats why when you look at mine I have spacers. But on newer stuff they did away with that lip so no spacers needed. Just a heads up ;) |
Re: Pulpit question
Just looked at the light pic's you have no lip, carry on!! ;)
|
Re: Pulpit question
Once the drunks are out of town, I will be at the city yard working on her. I mean the pulpit and not the wifey. ;D
|
Re: Pulpit question
Hammer, just thought of something.....Thank you for stepping up to the plate and ordering everything. Your a heck of a guy. ;)
|
Re: Pulpit question
AIR, its the least I could do since you hooked me up with a trailer when I was in a jam. ;)
|
Re: Pulpit question
Alright, thats enough, before the gay police show up ;D

Re: Pulpit question
Ok guys, the night slowed down, 1 accident and two fights with shots being fired. The afro-americans are shooting at themselves tonight.
Figured I post a few pics of the pulpit. No painting or wiring involved, so I guess I cant screw it up. ;D http://i47.photobucket.com/albums/f1...r/DSC02555.jpg Doing some custom work here. Ordered something special, hopefully it will be done soon and I can mount it. Not sure how it will look, if not, oh well. http://i47.photobucket.com/albums/f1...r/DSC02556.jpg Even played with some air tools. *;D http://i47.photobucket.com/albums/f1...r/DSC02557.jpg Air is dying to get his stuff and getting to work on his. ;D http://i47.photobucket.com/albums/f1...r/DSC02558.jpg |
Re: Pulpit question
Heck, I just figured mine would come pre-assembled. ;D
Actually, mine will need some custom work as well, because I have a pre-existing deck pipe that is only 5.5" off centerline. Pending how much overhang, I may have to shorten mine by 5 or 6". Either that or move the deck pipe, which I'd rather not do. She's lookin sharp there Hammer, and the drool is starting to flow here, gotta go... |
Re: Pulpit question
Glad you like. ;D
|
Re: Pulpit question
Here's a question, seeing as how nothing sticks to starboard, do we put a sealant / bedding compound between the deck / pulpit?
|
Re: Pulpit question
I say yes, silicone or something. I know they say nothing sticks, but squashing some sealant under the starboard around teh holes wont hurt.
|
Re: Pulpit question
I was thinking 5200 for this app, as it will somewhat adhere to starboard, and will certainly adhere to the deck.
|
Re: Pulpit question
I agree, 5200 is the way to go, It wont hurt, thats for sure. Not sure when i can install mine. Need a chain tension, looed at them on E-Bay. A bit pricey. Might have to wait for the next overtime check to come in.

Quote:
Slot ya might wanna try the same trick I did on my cap reattachment...sealant in the gap B4 ya tighten down...let cure and THEN torque 'er on down...shim it up w/ round toothpix...ya don't need much ;) ... then you'll have a ''compression'' seal to the S'board ... Those are nice lookin' pulpits ya'll puttin' together, Guys...makes me wish I needed one ::) ... |
Re: Pulpit question
Put some silcone sealant/caulk around the bolt holes,
let it set, and then it will act like a gasket when you squeeze it down. If you don't let it set, and you install the pulpit, the silicone will set in the squeezed state and will not stick and work it's way out. Just an idea. |
Re: Pulpit question
I used fast cure 5200, but use something, you no want the water to get in and rot the deck wood.
|
Re: Pulpit question
Hammer, what size and how many bolts will I need to bolt roller to pulpit?
|
Re: Pulpit question
You will need five bolts at 5/16. I used lock nuts that just fit the 3" bolts. You may want to go 3 1/2 on
the lenght. |
Re: Pulpit question
Uhh, Hammer, the pulpit is 1.5" thick, why 3" bolts? The roller bolts don't go through the deck, or do they? I can't tell where everything falls, cause I don't have mine yet, sniff, sniff :(
|
Re: Pulpit question
To much overtime. Just home now from working the night shift. I need to stay out of the evidence room.
I used 2" inch bolts that just fit. Go with 2 1/2 if you want some of the bolt to slightly stick through the lock nut. |
Re: Pulpit question
I put one bolt from the roller all the way thur, and two just thur the starboard.
|
Re: Pulpit question
The mounting plate for our rollers is much shorter though...
|
Re: Pulpit question
I made my pulpit out of 1 1/4" teak, about 36" long and 12" wide. It will hold all 215 pounds of me hanging off the tip of it sitting on dry land. Very tough. Pics follow here:
http://i139.photobucket.com/albums/q...s/DSC00304.jpg http://i139.photobucket.com/albums/q...s/DSC00303.jpg http://i139.photobucket.com/albums/q...s/DSC00305.jpg http://i139.photobucket.com/albums/q...s/DSC00307.jpg I have to remove it soon to refinish it. That's the only downside to using the teak, I'll get more up after the job is done. |
Re: Pulpit question
Nice work HAMMER...them bolts will getcha! :o
Thats a nice one too BCMM. 8) |
Re: Pulpit question
Stink, Just put out another 20 some bucks today in bolts.
>:( >:( >:( Will be working on the pulpit hopefullyTuesday. |
Re: Pulpit question
Man, when I saw this post updated I figured Hammer was gonna be asking if I was done yet ;D
If I can get away for a few minutes, I'll go spend a fortune on bolts tomorrow. ;) |
Re: Pulpit question
Call in sick and getter done. ;D
|
Re: Pulpit question
Off to gather some bolts ;D
|
Re: Pulpit question

Re: Pulpit question
MJ, it not the size of your roller, its not even how you use it, just get out and use the danged thing.

Re: Pulpit question
Played at the city shop for awhile with the plasma cutter again. *;D
http://i47.photobucket.com/albums/f1...r/DSC02566.jpg Little bit of grinding to make her purdy. ;D http://i47.photobucket.com/albums/f1...r/DSC02567.jpg I hate these damm fish rod holders. I would love to yank them out and put a sheet of starboard all the way across. Then add hatch covers to gain access. Before screwing them back in, I ran to more power lines for the future. In case if I ever install a stero and something else on that side of the boat. http://i47.photobucket.com/albums/f1...r/DSC02569.jpg The big hold up !!! Something so stupid, but couldnt go any farther. I need somebody up top while I break the bolts free from the underside. Nobody around to help, so It didnt get done. *>:( >:( >:( http://i47.photobucket.com/albums/f1...r/DSC02568.jpg |
Re: Pulpit question
Just tighten them till they break, thats what I do! ;)
I have to say I am JELIOUS about that plasma cutter!! |
Re: Pulpit question
MJ, I noticed you have the round deck pipe, the same as AIRSLOT, but the thimble at the end of his anchor rope wont fit through as he posted. Did you have the same problem or does your fit ??
If you have the same problem as AID did, I might go with teh rectangle one like Phats has. |
