Re: Pulpit install / assembly...

Hammer, lenght is no longer an issue. By mounting the cleats on the side, I can use the longest anchor I can fine. All is well.

I don't know......might be too spread out when you are anchoring.

Re: Pulpit install / assembly...

Hammer, move the cleats back to straddling your middle bolt hole. *You don't want the pull from the rode being anymore sideways on the roller than neccesary, my opinion of course.

Otherwise, I love it. ;) Are those 8" cleats?

msbhammer 05-03-2007 11:17 PM

Re: Pulpit install / assembly...

Sounds Good Air, will move them back to the middle hole. Yes, they are 8" cleats. Paid $12.95 for each. Good/bad, fair price ??, oh I wanted them. ;D

Airslot 05-03-2007 11:41 PM

Re: Pulpit install / assembly...

Very good price. I've got one 10" cleat, so I guess I'm committed in that direction.

I was going to be off today, but being the good servant I am, I've been at the office since 6:30 >:(

I'm checking out now, gonna mow the grass and finish up the V. May try a little fishing around sunset if the wind lays down. I'll post more pics in the morning.

Re: Pulpit install / assembly...

Far as I'm concerned MJ, you and CB are royalty; your Highness ;D

REEL, the toothpick idea worked great, thanks bud.

As for my lights, they were more work than the whole project. They are installed, but I'll have to get the wiring tomorrow.

Feeshin got blown out, so I did get to play in the yard, and with the V, till dark ;D

And I forgot, the pulpit is D O N E ! ;D

Re: Pulpit install / assembly...

Well guys, today was my day off, but spent most of the day on union issues before we offically sign off on it. So I didnt get as much as I wanted to get done, but at the same time I am still undecided as to where to put my cleats at. AIr was correct, the pulpit should be longer, I say at least six inches longer. But this is trial and error and make do with what ya got. *;)
I bought 4" bolts, but thought they would be to long, so I took them back and got 3" bolts, Well I think they are to short, so in the morning it will be back again to West Marine to switch out the bolts again. >:( My backing plate is slightly thicker then what AIR has, so maybe the 3" bolts works good for him. *???

General idea so far.
http://i47.photobucket.com/albums/f1...r/DSC02577.jpg

I just dont know where I should install the cleats at. Thought about this, but the rope locker wont work then. ??? ??? ???

http://i47.photobucket.com/albums/f1...r/DSC02578.jpg

Was thinking about installing the cleats here. Shouldnt they line up with those....chucks ??? I guess thats what you call them, that are mounted on the edge of teh bow ?? Any suggestions would be great.

http://i47.photobucket.com/albums/f1...r/DSC02576.jpg

Yes, no, maybe *??? ??? ??? ??? ???

Re: Pulpit install / assembly...

Wasnt thinking there Charlie, was thinking those bow chocks were for moring, but they are for anchoring. My bad. ;D. Guess they are going on the pulpit. ???

macojoe 05-05-2007 02:17 AM

Re: Pulpit install / assembly...

You should have a cleat right in line with the roller! Right were you have the holder.

msbhammer 05-05-2007 02:19 AM

Re: Pulpit install / assembly...

Pulipit isnt long enough for the anchor shaft, cleat and tension pin. :-/

msbhammer 05-05-2007 02:21 AM

Re: Pulpit install / assembly...

MJ. not sure if you noticed, but I took the rounded head bolts back and got normal bolts. I dont like teh appearance of teh normal bolts. Want the one's I had before. My only worry is when trying to torgue yours down, did they spin at all when tightning ????

macojoe 05-05-2007 02:31 AM

Re: Pulpit install / assembly...

Use nuts and lock washers, it will suck it down into the starboard and not turn, as long as your holes are not to big?
You want the hole the size of the bolt not the head! Lock washers will lock up as you tighten.
If you use lock nuts they go on to tight and you run the risk of the bolt turning when trying to get tight.

I have the nice round heads all the way around.

macojoe 05-05-2007 02:33 AM

Re: Pulpit install / assembly...

And I don't use the tension pin. My pulpit is 3 inch's longer then yours also.

msbhammer 05-05-2007 02:37 AM

Re: Pulpit install / assembly...

Ok, thats what I will do. I have the lock nuts, but will take them back for normal nuts and lock washers and get the rounded head type bolt. I like the appearance of the rounded bolt.
Thanks ;)

phatdaddy 05-05-2007 08:05 AM

Re: Pulpit install / assembly...

agree with mj, use carriage bolts w/lock washers and cleat dead in the middle. i also would ditch the holder and just wap on the cleat. i went with the biggest cleat that would fit on the pulpit. i leave the bowline on it all the time and still have enough room to wrap a few turns on the anchor rope and wrap the chain when running.

Re: Pulpit install / assembly...

For the non-believers in the crowd:

http://i36.photobucket.com/albums/e4...stall001-3.jpg

http://i36.photobucket.com/albums/e4...stall002-3.jpg

I've got to wire up the lights tonight, and order another 10" cleat for the other side. The good news is the boat is fishable again should the need arise ;)

I'll be installing the anchor locking pin like Hammer has, as opposed to the tensioner that I purchased.

And whoever said 5200 won't bond to starboard? The toothpick idea from REEL was great, thanks again REEL.

Looking good AIR. I'll be back out soon enough working on her. ;)

macojoe 05-05-2007 02:32 PM

Re: Pulpit install / assembly...

5200 will stick to it , but it will also come off easy, as compared to trying to get it off fiberglass.

Glad the picks worked out for ya Slot!! ;D...lookin' good, Man 8) ...

Re: Pulpit install / assembly...

Well boys, I'm all done. Or at least all the parts I have are installed ;) I still want to get one more cleat and the locking pin. The lights are wired and working. Overall I'm reel happy with the way it came out.

So, Hammer, what should the next project be? ;D

Re: Pulpit install / assembly...

Lumber, if ya do, go a bit longer in size. Our sizes was..I think 21", I'd go 27".

Ok, its DONE !!. *;D Anchor locker when o.t. check comes in. *;D

Worked through the rain as well.

Re: Pulpit install / assembly...

Hammer, they are long enough, just don't go shorter. Lookin good on yours. Wish I had my other cleat. ??? Now I'm thinking that I may just use that tensioner that I have, I'll decide in the morning. I got my lights wired, went out in the rain a minute ago and boy, them LED's look sharp in the dark.

So Hammer, whats the next project?

msbhammer 05-06-2007 01:11 AM

Re: Pulpit install / assembly...

Good job AIR, glad to hear you got her wired up. ;)
Boat is a mess with tools and need to really clean up the cuddy. Other projects to follow, chain locaker, replaced bow eye support, rub rail, touch up on bottom paint. I'm sure I'll find more things to do. ;D

msbhammer 05-06-2007 01:44 AM

Re: Pulpit install / assembly...

Air, so what ya doing about the anchor locker, you adding a piece of starboard or gonna knotch.
Any word from Warner if he started on his ??
