Re: Mission Accomplished
congrats, looks great. I would do as suggested & switch starboard for the bilge door. I think mj's right about either oil or water. don't know why low voltage would set off an alarm. Was the tach working ok. On my merc, that is usually the first indicator of an electrical problem. your gonna love it welcome to the cult.

Re: Mission Accomplished
Hey Randleman, congrates on getting that cool boat! 8)
I was reading what you posted about your gas tank and it got me thinking that you may wanna take a look at the workmanship of the install. A tank 1/2 the size of the original means there's probably plenty of room to spare... or plenty of room for the tank to move! :o Also, if it had 60 gallons before, it could have it again! ::) Here's a a couple of sites I've been looking at while researching what I'd need to do to put a fuel tank under my deck. This first one is the coast gaurd regs so you'll know how it should've been done: http://www.uscgboating.org/safety/bo...FUELSYSTEM.pdf Here's the one I think I'll end up getting my gas tank from: http://www.oceanlinkinc.com/tanks/gas-diesel.htm Here's my alternate: http://www.speedytanks.com/ Thanks for posting pics! I was starting to get a little worried about Hammer.... :o ;D ;D ;D |

Re: Mission Accomplished
Just a thought on the low voltage = higher current draw = heat which may mate the switch. Nice boat by the way welcome to V ownership. Have fun getting her set up your way! Billy Mac ;D

Re: Mission Accomplished
Sounds like your gonna need/want a new battery anyway. I'd throw a hot battery in there and see what she does. While there may not be an alarm for low voltage, all the sensors need proper voltage to funtion. That battery could well be the problem.
Airslot and congrats on the new ride. |

looks great man. hope she is what you expected. dont worry about the motor, i bet it is a impellar problem like MJ said.
happy "V"ing ;D |

Re: Mission Accomplished
congrats on the new V randleman! definetly change the impeller...also buy new thermostats..they could be sticking...or pull them and test them and run it without the thermostats to see if thats the prob.

Re: Mission Accomplished
I am trying to make notes as I go.
I will check the thermostats cause it is spraying water harder than I've ever seen on an outboard. I will solicit help when I get ready to do that. This morning I went out to charge the battery, hooked it up to the charger and the needle on the charger went all the way up. Figured must be a bad batt so I unhooked it and pulled it out. Checked the water levels and all were ok. Hooked charger back up and it acted normal. When I put it back in I noticed when I placed one of the red accessory wire on the post it sparked, but all switches are off. Apparently there is a short somewhere in the wiring. I will have to run it again to see if that short was messing up the sensors. |

Re: Mission Accomplished
It might have an automatic float switch wired in to run on constant power, or maybe a radio with a clock in it. It doesn't take much of a draw(around 10 MA) to make a spark when you connect the terminal.

Well, so much for the electrical problem theory. I'll be starting a new topic on the Merc.
