Re: Close call for MJ
Damn! *I'm glad you and your buddy are OK MJ. *The ocean can be a real biotch sometimes. *
But just think, now you have a great, scary ocean story to tell and impress the chicks. ;D Chris |
Re: Close call for MJ
Man, sorry ta hear about your accident. Im glad you all will be ok. I know youll have that ole V back right in no time. I had a close call 6 years ago. A wave hit me in the side, almost threw me over the side of my 16 ft. Carolina (plywood) boat in the mouth of the Albemarle sound. I was by myself, scared the $hit out of me. Since then Ive learned ta have a great deal of respect for the water, even small bodies of water.Be careful but get back on that horse and go.

Re: Close call for MJ
Wow MJ. Good job keeping it afloat.
FYI...I have 2 pumps hooked up. One auto the other on a switch. I've used'm too. Think I'll brace the W/S better tho'. |
Re: Close call for MJ
Holy Crap MJ!! I'm glad you made it out alive. That's a close call . . .

Re: Close call for MJ
WOW, I don't know how I missed this thread. I'm gald you are allright. That is defently a story you will be telling your grand kids!
let me/us know what parts you need. There are a quite a few V20's lying around Island Park (Town next to me) that have turned into flower beds. I'm sure I can get what ever you need. You are the true Salty Dog ;D |
Re: Close call for MJ
Thanks again everyone!!
Thanks for all the offers to help with parts and stuff!! I have the boat at home and I am at the camp grounds, I will be going home tomorrow and will be able to ck everything out well. I belive all damage is just going to be the windshied and supports. Everything else did very well! Hamerhead you can suport the windshield all you want, if you hit a wave like I did it is still going to be gone! I think I am going to get the windshield fixed up and clean the boat up. Then she is going up for sale, It has been a good boat for 9 years and has seen its share of big water!! I have been thinking this for a long time now, and for the places I fish I have een luckky all these years! we will see? So far Axe has a windshield for me and I have to wait for the shipiing charges? I am going to be fishing with out a windshield starting next week till I get his. Thanks all!! |

Re: Close call for MJ
MJ:
Say it ain't so. Rather than sell, we should start a V20 museum and induct it as the first. As for parts, I'll trade you a pump for the center glass of your windshield. |
Re: Close call for MJ
As for the sale, its something I have been thinking about, will it happen?? I have a lot of time in this boat and like it. It will have to be a great deal to makwe me sell!!
As soon as I know I have a new windshield cominmg Boat I will make that trade with you!! I don't want to say yes and then not get one. Cause when all else fails I might be able to get plex glass and some how piece the frame back toghter?? But I am sure Axe will come thur soon!! |
Re: Close call for MJ
glad you fellas came out ok. Thats some scarey stuff. It takes a couple weeks to shake that off or atleast it did for me when mine turned into a bathtub. Yes sir I like the dual bilge pumps and the scuppers and like you MJ thank God my engine kept runnin...

Re: Close call for MJ
OK MJ, let me know. But do not despair. Mine sank and I still own it. It took a lot of work to get it back together. I do not think I mentioned that the new 2004 Ficht blew a powerhead 20 minutes after first launch. Water in the fuel??? It's been at Millway Marina for 3 weeks now but the new powerhead is installed and should be ready for this weekend. Thank goodness for the 7 year non-declining warranty. The motor was used (demo motor with 40-50 hrs), but never registered so I got the spring warranty deal from Evinrude. Now I get to break it in properly myself and I really do have a new motor.

Re: Close call for MJ
Geez, go on vacation and miss all the action.
Glad to hear you both made it through ok. |
Re: Close call for MJ
Be sure to give her a big hug and waxing, being she did bring you and kenny back.
Least you can do |
Re: Close call for MJ
Glad to here you made it home. That is one tuff motor you got there MJ. As far as I am concernerned a good bilge pump is an important piece of safty equipment as your fire extinguisher. It may not stop the boat from sinking but it could possibbly delay it. With the amount of water you had in your boat I am amazed that you didn't sink. Again I'm glad you are still with us to share all your pearls of V-20 wisdom.

Re: Close call for MJ
MJ I too am glad you and Kenny are safe. *Things always change, if you do sell please stay on site, as Willy and CB have. *Good luck with your repairs. *Billy Mac *;D

Re: Close call for MJ
I already found him another replacement Wellcraft. A bit longer though at 22' Full transom, bracket and 200 hp Yammi. Problem is; it sold in about one or two days. I knew it was a good boat when I saw it. Oh well. :-[

Re: Close call for MJ
CB you talking about the 248's etc.? I have been noticing a lot of them around here. Guys love em.
I got to tell you as much as I love my V, or loved :'( if I was fishing commercially and my regular routine was out of sight of land by a good distance it would not be my boat. It would be my preference over a lot of other boats in similar size range because for a 20 footer it is probably the best over all design in my opinion. ' But with what I have seen read or heard in my lifetime being multi miles offshore on a daily basis or even just frequently especially in a tough sea area like New England I think a diffrent hull, at least a few feet longer and two engines would be my preference. Actually it would be something in a 25-30 foot range, the closer to 30 the better. I know it is a great hull, and very sea worthy but it is a inshore boat that gives you great all around comfort ride and flexability and the ability to run out on good days, even get you back when it all turns to sh!t , but then you are really just rolling the dice if you do it frequently. I like my kids and even the CEO to much for that, h@ll I like Jacky Daniels too much for that ;D |
Re: Close call for MJ
Similar hull to the 248's. Just a bit shorter. 8) It would be ideal for MJ's use.

Re: Close call for MJ
Chum, Is this the one? It is still on craigslist and close to MJ.

Re: Close call for MJ
Or if a 30 footer feels safer and you want a bracket and plenty of fishing room, here's one for you. You'd need to land a lot of "doormats" to pay for it though...

Re: Close call for MJ
Well everythingn is on holdm for now, I have to see about a windshield!!
Axe said he had one and I am sure he is busy, But I have heard nothing from him? I have a 1975 V and belive that up to 79 will fit but not sure. i know for sure that 73 to 76 will fit. So is any one has a lead on one let me know!! Thanks Everyone!! |
Re: Close call for MJ
The windshield I got from Mulv was from a 76 (I believe) and it was about 1/2 inch too wide for my '88. I put it on anyway. If you come across a newer one, we can swap. I am sure this will fit yours.
|
Re: Close call for MJ
I just got a PM from Axe and I am all set with the windshield!!
Thanks again!! |
