Hello friends. I wanted to give another update on our previous head big shot macojoe.
I had heard from him a couple weeks ago. He was having more issues related to his diabetes. He sent me a pic of a nasty looking open wound on the bottom of his foot. I'll save you guys from the gory image. He mentioned that he was most likely going to lose the foot. I've had several health issues going on myself lately with more back surgery next week. I tried reaching MJ a couple times to no avail to see how he was doing. MJ called me today while I was on my way back from a Dr appointment. I had difficulty understanding him. Joe had a stroke. I don't know any other real details regarding the severity or long term prognosis. I struggled to understand him due to his speech being effected, but he was able to convey which nursing home he's in. I told him I would try to make the drive to see him before my surgery next week. My problem is, he is almost an hour away. So a two hour round trip with my back is not going to be easy. Hopefully I'll have more news and update you folks in a couple days. |
Continued prayers for both of you.

Thanks for getting the word out, CB. Is there something that we could do for him?
Prayers and best wishes for your upcoming surgery. |
Prayers for both of you. Candles will be lit this Sunday. Best of luck in your upcoming surgery CB. :pray2:

Thanks guys. I talked to Joe's daughter today. Seems it's not 100% that he had a stroke, but they believe he did. When they transported him from his local hospital to Tufts University Hospital in Boston, he had several bad seizures and another really bad one at the hospital. They ran a lot of tests on him. Most were inconclusive, so best they can tell, he had a small stroke. He was unconscious for several days so they had both a breathing tube and a feeding tube inserted. Apparently that's mostly why I had difficulty understanding him. He was having hallucinations and all sorts of other bad stuff going on. Since being discharged to the nursing home, he has been refusing to eat so they puree most of his food. His daughter is trying to get him to eat.
If anyone has a mind to send him a card to boost his spirits, Joe is at; Joseph Gougeon c/o Cape Cod Heritage Nursing Home 37 MA-6A Sandwich, MA 02563 I told his daughter that I would try to get there to see him, but no promises given my situation. I'll post more as I receive more news. Thanks fellas. |
BTW; I talked to Willy two days ago. I'm pretty sure his sentiment is all y'all are still a bunch of smelly old cantankerous curmudgeons.:nut:

Thanks for the update CB Will send card of encouragement to Joe tomorrow.

Any updates on MJ? :head:
|
Sorry for delayed updates on our Pal MJ. I've been having struggles myself with more spine surgeries. That's a nasty rabbit hole I don't wish on anybody.
Anyways, our Pal MJ is really struggling. At one point it sounded as if he was working towards going home. Unfortunately, as bad luck seems to be hanging over MJ's head constantly, that just never happened. So many setbacks and complicated issues have kept him in the nursing home since last summer. He really wanted to be home around Thanksgiving for his twin grand kids birthday's. That didn't happen. As time wore on, MJ has become more and more dejected and withdrawn. To the point he doesn't answer phone calls or texts. I haven't really been able to drive to see him due to my ongoing surgeries. I have been in touch with his daughter several times for status updates. Each one sounds worse than the other. MJ often refuses to eat or take meds. I did text him a Merry Christmas message on Christmas day and he responded with a short Merry Christmas back to me and saying we'll talk soon. I haven't heard anymore since. A few members of another site are sending cards with get well wishes. If anyone here would like to do the same, his info is the same as what I posted earlier in this thread. I have also received a few donations to help him out. Those will most likely be forwarded to his daughter, but I'm going to make the effort to go see him in a week or two if possible. If that happens, I will ask how he wants those funds to be handled. If any of you fellas would like to help, My PayPal is; [email protected] and any and all funds will go directly to help our buddy out. Even just a card to lift his spirits would be a huge help. I know things are tight for a lot of folks right after Christmas and all. Thanks fellas. I'll try to give more timely updates provided I can stay out of hospitals myself. :hi: Edit to add Joes info; Joseph Gougeon c/o Cape Cod Heritage Nursing Home 37 MA-6A Sandwich, MA 02563 |
Thanks for the update CB. He's lucky to have such a good friend like you. Happy New Year and hope your problems disappear this year.

Appreciate the update Chum and the additional leg work even with your own issues going on. I am grateful to this site for the camaraderie and tons of free advice and knowledge through the years. I'm not online much anymore, but when I am I always try to check in here. Gonna see about sending something up that way for that old curmudgeon MJ. I will say that I was in a bar a week ago and a couple guys rocked out Billy Joel's "Downeaster Alexa" and made me think of him.

Thanks again, Chum for keeping us informed about MJ..hope one day his luck turns for the better.
And you, old buddy...have been the soul of this forum since I joined back in '03. My heart goes out to you for all the pain and hardship I know you have suffered, but not mentioned. Sorry to hear about it and hope to the heavens you are able to beat your ailments and get back to the active, normal life you used to live. Best regards always... |

MJ and CB - the two peas in a pod that drew me in and kept me here! Love you both. I wish I could be 1/2 the admin MJ was. Just want everybody to know I'm in and out of here almost daily, just don't have the time to post much. I do read a lot of the posts and updates. Even still I know I have a lot of friends here and cherish every one of you. Old members, new members, all welcome here. You don't get razzed on this site for saying something "silly". No dumb questions on this site, unlike others. If that weren't the case I would have been run out of here long ago!
Thank you CB for keeping us posted on our old friend and on your ongoing situation. |
I'm pretty busy this week with some Dr follow ups from my third spinal fusion surgery, but I'm going to try to get down to see MJ next week.
I'll keep you all posted on updates following that visit. |
Great to hear from you and that all looks like it is finally showing good results for you. Keep it up and you'll be back in no time!!!:sun:
