Don't think I ever said this before: "Hope that knife comes soon".
Good luck! rkc |
The Dr's assistant called tonight and said I am on for Thursday, just waiting for the hospital to set an OR time.
Good Luck Ferm! We're all pulling for ya. Hope your operation turns out well!
I go in at 7, and scheduled for surgery at 10.
Good luck Ferm.:hi:
:pray2::pray2:Yes good luck!! Hope all works out for ya!! T&P
Good luck my friend, saying a prayer for you
We'll be thinking of ya tomorrow morning.

Made it home safe and sound. Surgery went well, but he had some trouble getting the old screw portion out. He removed the rods, filled my femur with bone paste, ground down the head of my femur to remove some bone spurs and excess growth, and stitched my hip cartilage back into the joint(it was cut in half he said and hanging). So far so good.

Thinking about you my friend, give you a call in a day or so

That's a cool memento. Lets hope it's the last one and you are pain free finally.

Wow that was fast!! They just don't keep anyone in for long anymore! My niece just had a op and was home the next day.
Glad all went well, now relax and 3 months will fly right by!! |

Back in the ER, they don't think it's an infection, but they also have no clue what it is.
Going to be staying here overnight for observation and blood pressure meds.
Looks like some sort of cellulitis. Hopefully they can get a handle on it Ferm. Get well soon.

WARNING! Long detailed post.
Well after a wonderful night in the hospital(I use this term most sarcastically). I went to the ER at 4 and the Dr.s there didn't have a clue what it was, and had never seen it before, but my blood pressure was through the roof because it was itching, burning, and in ALOT of pain now(because my pain meds had worn off and this had spread to such a large portion of my leg), so I got admitted to take blood pressure meds or be discharged AMA and my insurance wouldn't cover it. Before I got admitted I was able to get some more pain meds and my blood pressure had come down to high, but tolerable but I still got admitted for a 24 hour observation hold. They got me into the hospital at 8 and by 9 had started to begin the new treatments and such. My blood pressure was still borderline so I told them not to give me the blood pressure meds yet, but they went ahead and started me on steroids for the allergic reaction on my leg, and then gave me Benadryl around 10.
I was POURING sweat for hours after the steroids, but slept from 10:30 to 2:30 at which time I had to get up and pee. When I got back they came in and rechecked by blood pressure and at this time they convinced me to take the blood pressure meds(only 1 of the 2 they wanted to give me). I took that, a pain pill, and shortly there after another dose of steroids. At 6:30 they gave me another blood pressure pill as this med is every 4 hours around the clock. Around 8 I get up to pee, make it 5 feet and get lightheaded, then dizzy, and by the time I make it into the bathroom I can barely stand as I'm dizzy, blurred double vision, and short of breath to top it off. Finally around 8:30 I make it back to bed and call the nurse, and at this point a 2 hour fiasco ensues of the nurse freaking out when she sees me and the hospital Dr coming on and trying to talk me into taking a different blood pressure med. I finally say no more as I told them that all of this had happened(but nowhere near as badly) from the last med my primary Dr had tried and was why we had decided to hold off for awhile before anymore treatment(this of course wasn't good enough for the hospital as he is just a DO, not a cardiologist). And oh yeah, now my blood pressure is sky rocketing just like it has on every other blood pressure med they have put me on. After the Dr leaves the nurse comes over to me and tells me not to take anything else and to not listen to the Dr, which is what I had already told her I was going to do. Now for the real kicker, the surgeon that did the surgery sent in his assistant around 10:30 or so, she took one look at it and said it was an allergic reaction to the adhesive compiled by the betadine on my skin and had caused a type of chemical reaction burn. And she began yelling at the nurses saying I should have never been admitted, and simply sent home with Benadryl. And she had no idea why they would have put me on steroids for it, and there was absolutely no reason to have done so. And finally said get me the heck out of there NOW! So after a wonderful stay in the hospital, I got to come home around 12:45 once my wife was able to come pick me up. So that was my last 24 hours, and long winded post of the day. |
wow, what a mess.
Surely makes my sucky commute home last night minor.... Hope things improve, and improve quickly... rkc |
Forgot to mention now I'm dizzy and lightheaded with the shortness of breath still even though I stopped the blood pressure meds. They said it should hopefully go away in a few days. So after all of this all I needed was a shower and some Benadryl, but had an overnight stay and pumped full of crap I didn't need that made me sick:nut:.
Holy crap this was all very fast. I missed the surgery date. Glad your OK and out of there. Jeez, you will do anything for attention won't you? Seriously wish you a most speedy recovery.

The lightheadedness and being dizzy are usually the symptoms of low blood pressure. I get it from time to time whenever doc adjusts my BP meds. You just have keep a close watch on your BP since not doing so can have such dire consequences. My entire family has chronic high blood pressure... My mom, dad, all of their brothers and sisters, and all my brothers and sisters...but we usually live into our mid 90's so I'm not too worried. |
sorry to here about your hospital screw up ( thats why they call it practicing medicine) I hope things get better for you and your family and you are in our prayers,
Sorry to hear about that crapola you went through....hope you heal up real quick buddy!
Hope you feel better soon Ferm.
Update? How you doing Ferman?

Just thought I'd pass that on. |
Thanks Lee, Merry Christmas!

Back at you, hope you are getting some fishing in, it's been 72 dg here the last 2 days, we woke up to 78 this morning at 6 an by 8 it was 82.
Getting by OK right now. Going through some bad withdrawls coming off the Percocet, and still have some of the redness left from the allergic reaction, but I'm getting by. Most would say I'm nuts, but I stopped taking pain meds after about 9 days out of surgery. I deal with pain pretty well, and the Percocet was getting to me. This is the first time I have taken it for any length of time, and I don't like it. But I can't take VICODIN, and there isn't a lot of pain pills they are aloud to give now that aren't on the FDA list of addictive drugs they don't want to prescribe. Hanging in there, and can't wait until I can get back up and going. It hasn't even been 2 weeks and I'm going stir crazy.
Hope things get better for you Ferm. My father in law recently spent a week in the hospital for some BS meds his doctor was switching around on him. I hate hospitals. When I get old and ready to die I think I'll be like an old Indian and just walk off into the woods and sit down against a tree and croak.

I'm with ya Destroyer. I was talking to someone a little while ago and we were talking about spreading ashes at sea. Supposedly you have to pay some kind of fee and get permission from the state I believe. I told my wife when it's my turn she'd better not be paying any fee to anybody! Take me out and dump me in bull river between lazaretto creek and wassaw sound and send me off on an out going tide. It will be my last chance at sticking it to the man.
Well since I'm part indian I could probably circumvent most of them permits and fines. For the icing on the cake, I was walking the dogs this morning and they were froggy because of the cool air. The youngest(and biggest) one caught my left crutch when I was starting up the ramp, and down I went in the dirt on you guessed it, my bad side. So today aint been a good day. Had to break the Percocet back out, but not until after I had went down and got my haircut(he got a good laugh about that one as I only go in about 3 times a year for a haircut). So ought to be a fun Christmas.
The Dr says I have to wait until the 23rd to go full weight bearing on my hip. Getting tired of the crutches already ,and it hasn't even been 4 weeks yet. Going to be fun chasing the little one on crutches for the next few weeks.
You all but said it yourself, you need to be 100% if you plan on keeping up with junior. It is only a few more weeks, you have made it this far, don't mess it up now. Did they do good or can you tell yet?
Stick with the plan Ferm, you will get stronger everyday if you do
Today is my first day at home watching him by myself Ridge, and the bad part is he knows I can't keep up with him so he monopolizes on it. They won't do any X-rays or anything until I go back in 4 weeks to check it, but he showed me pics and stuff he took while he was in there, and showed me where the cartilage was ripped out of my hip and where he had to take out some bone, and nail the cartilage back in my hip. He origanlly told me 4 weeks and I could put weight back on it, but due to how much bone he had to grind out he wants me to wait 6 weeks, and then another 6 weeks before I do anything to really speak of on it. Was hoping for 12 weeks and I would be healed, but now it's looking like it could be 4-6 months because of how badly it was damaged.
To bad Christmas break is over as it was nice having momma here to chase the little one, all I can do is crawl to get him or yell. |

Apologies for just now catching up w/your situation...ouch!...I snapped my right femur long ago and still have the rod they took out a year later...if you need it, brother it's YOURS!! Listen to the doc and if/when he advises physical therapy, do it, do it, do it. Hope ya get better soon! |
I got the one they took out 3 1/2 weeks ago, and I may still be able to get back the broken one from 11 1/2 years ago. I've got all bone now in my left femur, gonna be interesting the next time I go swimming. The stainless rod was heavy enough I would sink to my left side, now maybe I will float semi normal again(or sink normal).
