I am interested to hear what your numbers are--there is always room for improvement---and if proven better--I may have to invest in a new blade.
Is the 17 a rebel as well?

No--I am maxing at about 5200. recommended max rpm is 4500 to 5800. so I am just above the middle-- a 18 would be sweet--I am thinking the 17 might give to much rpm and at $656 a pop, not in a hurry to be buying several props to play with.

What are you thinking?

spareparts 06-11-2013 07:19 AM

who ever installed the engine is supposed to do a shake down run and record the rpm and loads thru out the rpm range to verify warranty. Any of the newer direct injected outboards run on the edge of self destruction, that's why they are so good on gas. Ask the dealer if they have approved the propeller choice and if they have signed off on the installation

bgreene 06-11-2013 07:14 PM

Plus - most prop sellers will let you test / try one, bring it back, test another until you find the best prop. I've done this - it's common, as long as you don't damage the prop while testing.

When my rigger gets it done, I'll be able to report back with 18" Rebel performance.

Genie Aye 06-11-2013 09:41 PM

I understand the prop swap as I can get that, but I do not know of anyone that has several rebel props to try, even the dealers do not stock many, they seem to order as needed. The dealership chose the prop and I talked with the Evinrude rep and he said that I was fine at the rpm I am at, but as I said, always room for improvement.

waiting---impatiently.

will be gone fishing this weekend.

If Genie's getting 52 mph from his 200 HO then it can't be all that wrong.

I was just communicating on the etec forum site with a guy who got 43 mph from his old 200 hp carb'd Evinrude, and now 40 mph with his 200 HO !!! I wouldn't be too happy !

I better see at least 8 mph increase in top speed over my old 150 hp Evinrude looper or I definitely WON'T be happy.

I'm keeping the faith because Genie get's 52 mph.

So my target is at least 50 mph minimum.,,,,,, even if it's down hill, as in Niagra Falls.

bradford 06-14-2013 11:58 AM

For me performance is a lot more than top speed.

Going from a carbed 225 looper to an injected 150 ETEC I'm getting 7 mph less top speed with 75 less hp, 2" less prop, about 42 lbs less weight, but 3 times the fuel economy. I never top speed her anyway usually running 4100-4400 rpms pushing low to mid 30's. Bring her up to 5000-5100 going back to the ramp for a short burst.

None of us really run WOT, or close to WOT often, ..........to me it's about total performance, including being able to have a fast cruising speed while not pushing the motor, and getting good fuel economy.

My last boat, a Mako CC, went from a 150 hp looper to 200 DFI. Wow, everything was better, popped up on plane, held slower planning speed, better fuel economy AND 9mph faster top end.

Interesting that you only dropped 7 mph from a 225 to 150 hp motor. Sounds like that worked out very well.
Speaking of motors...........any day now, I should get my boat back with 200 HO. Any day now.........any day now..........

That's a pretty fair run. According to the weather channel seas were supposed to be 2-4'. How did she run in that slop? :head:

The am was calm so we took the ride, calm return too. Wasn't until around 1pm that wind came up S/ SE and chop developed . Then we dialed in the ride at 3,500 rpm and chugged right through it with some tabs down.

That's part of this engine that's very interesting- at 3,500 rpm, running mid 20's and the engine sounds almost like it's idling.

The 21 must look like a new one now.
