Even though she's only 115 hp, remember that an inline 6 has a lot more torque than a V6 of the same displacement. Don't be afraid to experiment with different pitch props to find the one that's "just right" for your needs. You should do fairly well with her. Congrats on the short lived hull wetting, sounds like you're on the right track for some major fun.
|
she's running a beat up 17 pitch prop now.... I was using prop calculators and they were recommending 15 pitch.... honestly I was surprised how well she did with the 17
I think I had a float sticking in one of the carbs as at one point she seemed to be making about 2/3 of normal power for a few seconds but she still got on plane and then gained power..... I realize that a carb running lean can kill the engine FAST but this happened within just a few seconds.... |
Suddenly it makes more sense....... I looked again and my beat up prop IS a 15 pitch...... DOH!
prop wizzard says 14x13 for watersports and 13 3/4x15 for speed gotta love it when a "plan" comes together lol |

RR, you ought to sign up on iboats and read my build there of the monte carlo
I'm a C/L shoppin FOOL I love it when a "plan" comes together....... Soooo I decided to give my new trailer a good looking over today... the tires are not long for this world and the rims are mismatched so that's an item on the shopping list.... one wheel is held on the hub with carriage bolts n nuts so at minimum new lugs n nuts or possibly a new hub is in order. Lights are junk or missing (I used magnet lights to get it home) but I always outfit my trailers with L.E.D.'s anyhow.... Next I decided to look for rust and couldn't find ANY!.... Looked closer and under the mediocre paint job the trailer is GALVANIZED! YAY! The rollers aren't perfect but they have quite a few years left in em.... I'll be tired of the black tire tracks and looking for non mar rollers before the need replacing due to condition. I remove a couple hundred stainless screws, some nice white gauges and an ign switch from the junk boat to use on the V I called the landfill at 3:08 today to ask what time they closed and the fellow said "8 minutes ago, see ya after christmas?" I laughed and said "yeah, see ya then" LOL |
well I took the junk boat to the landfill today... cost: $30 new total $-104.00
I launched the V in the yard and cranked her onto her new trailer.... after loading it and adjusting the winch stand I thought to myself that I wish the trailer was 6" longer........ Then I noticed that the tongue had provisions for adjusting it out another 6" YAY! |
No new work on the V since 2011? Wed love to see an update.
|
ugh.... believe me, I'd love to make some progress but I've been working a minimum of 60 hours a week since march..... It was winter before that and again now.... It looks like I MIGHT get a little time off in the next couple months and if so I'll brave the snow to do some wiring and such and maybe install some goodies on the interior.
I DID pick up a mercury keyless ignition system for her and have been shopping for and trying to decide on interior pieces. ALMOST bought a t top the other day. I also made an offer on an evinrude xp300 but it didn't happen..... thank goodness LOL |
|
I just realized that I did have a bit more done than I posted here.... I'm sorry .... check out my other thread on iboats for the missing pieces.

Smoke I might have to get one of those keyless switches. I have only the controls for my Merc right now so now is the time.

I just ordered a kicker bracket on fleabay "GARELICK AUXILIARY OUTBOARD MOTOR BRACKET 71057 UP TO 20 HP" $115 shipped
http://forums.iboats.com/attachment....9&d=1369024761 Also It looks like my donated (thanks again Ridge) grab rail n misc parts in Florida are finally gonna be brought up here on the 29th as I have a buddy coming up for a wedding. Will be so nice to get the rail and windshield installed so I can get a cover made... Plus getting the kicker installed will free up some much needed storage space inside the shop. I also bought a quart of Epifanes spar varnish a couple weeks ago for the woodwork to come. Guess It's not a free boat any more... with the kicker figured in and this new stuff I'd say I have about $250 in the whole rig now. |
