Here is your first lesson:

Too funny Reel, LOL - no such thing as a short "i" in these parts!

No. Not untill you get down here towards Wilmington where the Cape Fear River meets the ocean. And even then the "highlands" are only like 20' above sea level at best. As far as insurance rates go, they say if you can smell the salt air you're gonna be paying more. As long as you stay out of New Hanover county you should be okay. I live right outside of Wilmington across the county line in Pender county, and I'm within sight of an inlet and the ICW (3-4 rows back) and my insurance is cheaper here than at my other home in Wilm. but no where close to the water.

randlemanboater 04-09-2009 09:38 AM

Willy, take a look at Lake James, it is one of my favorites, but a long way from the coast.

Morehead City / Beaufort is where anyone that boats, fish, and owns a "V" needs to live.

Skools Out 04-09-2009 01:23 PM

agreed MHC is the place to be Willy or Emerald Isle Come on to EI or MHC and hang with us Willy. I'm heading to my place tomorrow at EI.

garagenc 04-09-2009 01:30 PM

My wife is a realestate agent in NC & VA, we live in Camden NC. We are 45 minutes from the Outer banks and about 50 minutes from VA beach.

We live on the water and there is some good waterfront property around here (and great fishing and boating water).

She can get you info & represent you in both states.

Let me know if you want her phone # for more info.

randlemanboater 04-16-2009 08:41 PM

I'd be careful giving your wifes # to Willy, remember Atlantic City and the quarters?

Hey Willy, I've been thinking about it and I think the Raleigh Area would suit you best. Lots of lakes close by, plenty of work, 2 hrs to the coast.

Some of the retired cops around here get jobs with the US Marshall's office doing Federal Court House security, they have a court house in Raleigh. It works out fine with the NC retirement system, don't know about yours.

spareparts 04-16-2009 09:08 PM

As some one who was born in and grew up in Raleigh, or should I say South Cleveland, I wouldn't pick it as a place to retire. The lakes around there are mad houses on the weekends, although they do have some good fishing. The traffic is as bad as Atlanta. Willy, after my trip, I think you need to be talking to garagenc, he's a good piece( another Southern term you need to learn) inland from the coast, but still has great access to some of the best fishing on the East coast with several different bodies of water within an hours drive. The biggest decision you will have to have is whether to fish fresh water bass, brackish for reds and flounders, Stripers in any number of locations, or heading to the stream for the blue water big ones. I would invite you to the Low Country but I think that would be too far of a drive from NJ. Check map quest for distance and drive time to Lee's area. You could make it a weekend trip rather than a week trip

willy 04-16-2009 11:01 PM

Randle, Spare, all you guys I appreciate the info, keep it coming. You guys are right, I need to decide whether to pursue a life on the coast or one in the hills. I truly love both as a die hard hunter as well as a fisherman. I want to work also and whether or not I want to do that in security or the like is up in the air.
I intend to take a trip with my wife and kids down there this summer and check out a few areas. Hopefully I can hook up with some of you Snaggers.

Skools Out 04-16-2009 11:24 PM

PM me your shipping address i'll send you a care package i picked up for you.

garagenc 04-20-2009 02:17 PM

Willy

Within 20 minutes from where I live is Blackwater. They are in constant need of security instructors. Within 45 minutes of me is the outerbanks. Albermarle and Currituck Sounds are within a 15 minute boat ride for great fishing.

spareparts 04-20-2009 07:38 PM

Willy, listen to garagenc, I was just up in his area and if i wasn't so fond of SC, I'd consider moving up there.

willy 04-20-2009 09:32 PM

Believe me I am listening, to every single word and am working on a visit map.
Keep um coming

Blue_Runner 04-21-2009 08:53 AM

Blackwater Willy

willy 04-21-2009 11:16 AM

I always wanted to wear one of those ninja pajamas while working:sun:

garagenc 04-21-2009 07:58 PM

Willy
Let me know when you and the Misses want to look around. My wife and I can put you 2 up for the trip so it wont cost you nothing to stay. We can show ya'll around to some of the sites and homes.

We'all might have to have some fellowship to celebrate.

willy 04-22-2009 05:42 PM

Thats great, and quite an offer thanks. I will let you know when I figure out when we are going to be able to get down. I am hoping soon but looks like end of June

spareparts 04-22-2009 07:06 PM

hey Willy, not to scare you off, but you may want to come down before the temp hits triple digits(humidity always stays near 100%) and the mega mosquitos come out

willy 07-12-2009 09:19 AM

Hey Garagenc, check your PM's

bcmarinamanager 07-13-2009 04:10 PM

Hey Willy, I'm trying to sell my house now. 215,000 sound good to you? Here's a link to a thread I just posted. I've got a map on there too. If you'd like some pics, just let me know.

nipper 07-14-2009 08:01 AM

Bcm, that appears to be a really beautiful area and house. Your housing costs must be really reasonable in NC.

willy 07-14-2009 08:21 AM

Well as I said on the other post I am delivering my kids to good friends home on Myrtle Beach on I believe the 23rd, tuesday and me and the CEO are going to scope a couple of places in NC.
We are going to make our way up and spend some time with Lee (garagenc) and check out his area. Looking forward to it, a lot.

Blue_Runner 07-14-2009 08:43 AM

Chesapeak's post got you fired up didn't it? It got me fired up!!
:fam:

Me and my homeboys are gonna hopefully try to make another run this coming weekend. I find out at noon today whether or not I have to work Friday thru Sunday. Wish me luck on avoiding work!!

garagenc 07-14-2009 09:34 AM

Great talking to you the other night Willy, Me and the wife re looking fwd to you and the miss'es coming. Keep me posted on your arrival date and time. Looking fwd to the visit.

reelapeelin 07-15-2009 07:49 AM

Willy...after ya drop the kids off at SC's version of Sin City...if you are looking for a GREAT place to eat and are heading north from MYB on 17, turn off(on 179) to Calabash NC and eat at the Grapevine...(closed on Mondays)...it's right on the main drag goin' thru town, so you won't have to look for it...you won't find better food anywhere from MYB to Wilmington...Mac will greet you and take good care of you...

Don't go thru that area w/out lookin' at Southport...and Labii is in Wilmington...I have his numbers if ya wanna drop him a line...great guy!!...

spareparts 07-15-2009 06:03 PM

Reel, you ever eat at The Crab Catcher in Little River, its right down where the gamblin boats are, they have a pretty decent crab cake sandwich, just make sure its grilled, not fried

That's down there beside Capt Juel's on the ICW...no doubt it's good, but we make a beeline to Capt Juel's 1st...several of the gamblin' boats dock there...but I don't know that ALL of 'em do...

That crab cake wouldn't happen to be hand-picked SC Blues would it?...causs if it is, THAT'LL be the next beeline I make down there...
