Did he say whether his alarm went off? If not, I can somewhat understand why he tried limping in.

Also, if he had to pump the ball to get in then wouldn't some of his damage be probably already done? It doesn't seem to me that lack of oil would keep it from running for a bit.....until something gets FRIED.

Wow, sucks majorly for that guy.

i doubt that guy was running a VRO. he has studs on the heads (highly modded engine). probably running alot of timing. and it looks like a really really old crossflow. i think the blocks that were painted blue were in the 70's era before variable ratio oiling.

I suspect not a VRO issue as well. VRO mixes oil with fuel prior to the carbs. if the VRO wasn't functioning correctly that lower clyinder won't look as good as it does compared to the top. Understand the top gets hotter quicker than lower clyinders but that's just too much of a difference for me to believe VRO was the only problem this engine had!

Not my picture, just re-posting. He claimed it was a VRO mis-hap, who knows though. Although I do have a YAMAHA 250 that lost just one cylinder like this and it was an oil problem, the other 5 looked fine.

My Yamaha also was a oil issue!!

Middle cylinder on one side got messed up, but none of the other 5. But I did not run mine past idle, I heard the noise and was not to far from the ramp, jut shifted in gear and got in it, the damage is nothing like pic above but none the less it was 1 cylinder out of 6 and the oil pump was in 2 pieces when I found it.

Those melted pistons look like the ones that come out of drag cars when they hit the nitros too long.
