Thanks, Yensen. I think that is exactly what I am going to go with. I will probably make the bottoms out of starboard. I think I will fashion the bases so that water in the cockpit can drain through the base (i.e. no bottom on the base). I will then look into hinging the seats so I can pull them up and store stuff beneath the seat that can get wet. I think I will not fasten these down permanently, but rather, go with a friction fit and maybe a strap/snap or two. That way I can just pull them out when not needed.

Yep those are my seats. The base is made from thin plywood and are open on the bottom. These seats were added by one of my boat's previous owners. These seats are held in place only by gravity. They've always stayed put while the boat is moving. They must be moved to open the engine cover and being able to move them around is sometimes handy. If you check the other pictures in my gallery you'll notice that I have a short cover over the helm area. I can move both seats up under the cover for storage when the boat is in the slip.

Prior to the site moving all my posts showed my name, Rick. After the site moved my posts all show my log in, rb437.
Check out the picture attached. No conversion. It looks to me like the cap is made to go either OB or IO. This boat has always been a full transom w/ IO. It's an 1989 |
