Yep, back then a dollar's worth of gas could actually get you somewhere.

Pipe_Dream 02-07-2008 05:03 PM

Okay, I said I wouldn't get into a political discussion, but the price of gas is economics.

Everyone in the good ol' USA needs to understand something: the POTUS does not set the price of oil. There is precious little he/she can do to even slightly influence the supply of oil, let alone the price.

The same goes for the economy. Aside from changing income tax rates, the POTUS cannot greatly influence the economy. All he/she can do is try to take credit/try to deflect blame for the economy of his/her term.

Got it?

BTW, this thread ought to be in Off Topic.

Yeah ........... guess that's why Cheney won't release the notes from his energy meetings which included the oil industry ........... that was before Enron almost bankrupted California wasn't it ........... and the home energy is sooooo much more expensive ........ as far as oil ..... the fact is that the oil companies own everything from alot of the wells to the refining to the gas stations ............ I'm old enough to remember when the gas crises hit and gas went from 30 cents to over a dollar ......... how the oil companies said it wasn't their fault and brought in experts to say that the earth was running out of oil etc etc etc .......... please don't tell me that when their profits are greater than any other company at anytime in the world ............ if you believe the above then I bet the easter bunny will be real good to you tooo ......

Oh boy a pissing contest.
Let me get a chair, stand back about 25 feet and watch bladders blow.
This is as much fun as trying to figure out if Janet Reno stands or squats to urinate.
