MJ - Here's a whole 1987 175 Yamaha parts motor in Beford, MA. The auction is ending in 2 days.

Did you try bleeding the system again?

To get the air out . . . Tilt the motor down all the way . . . loosen the relief screw a few turns. Have one of you kids put pressure on the lower unit while your trying to tilt the motor up. The cylinder should fart out some air bubbles/fluid (out the relief valve) When it starts to lift them off the ground and stops farting air bubbles tighten the relief valve. Continue to tilt until the reservoir sounds like it running dry . . . then stop put more fluid in the reservoir and continue to tilt the motor all the way up.

You could also make an offer of $200 to this guy . . . . but I'd go with the parts motor if you can get it for cheap!!

Thanks BS!! *

Yes I have tryed to bleed again, but the relife screw is frozen in place *>:(

I have been told that the relife on these Yamahas have been a problem and thats were my problem is??

Also was told by the guys at Nauset Marine that a rebuild kit is 200+ and that they no do it as they have never had any luck with a rebuild before?
They said thwere is someone offering rebuilts now and that they get $500+ for them, They ordered one and are going to see how it turns out?

I am going to watch the parts motor, and see what happens?

I am going Mackrel Monday and after that I might try to pull the release vaul out and replace the o rings and see if that the problem?

It will be good to have the parts motor no matter what, so I will be watching!!

Thanks!

MJ - Can't you drill out the relief screw and buy another one? or retap it and use a standard size screw.

Ok I am all fixed!! ;D

After talking two everyone in the world, 99% said they thought it was the relife screw leaking by?

But it doesn't move I tell everyone?? I talked to a old time yamaha guy and he said that he had one that did not move eaither and it was that screw that was causing the problem.

I guess when the O ring was new it did not need that much tightening, And after years has worn some.

When I was at my brothers I tryed to lift the motor by hand as it was low on fluid, When all of the sudden it poped like something broke and went up.

Well today I went out there with a flat screw driver bit for a 1/2" impac wrench.
Put on the screw and 3 good hits with the hammer and the screw broke free!

I sprayed with PB Blaster and worked it back and forth back and fourth a bunch of times.

before it broke lose it was at lets say 3:00 position, when all was done it was at the 5:00 position and the thing works great!!

No more leaking of any kind. To think I almost spent $300 on ebay yesterday :o

But I am watxching the parts motor, I want it for all its parts!

Thanks ALL!!!!!!!!! Now Its time to start fishing! ;D :D ;) :)

there are few better feelings than having a problem [especially on the boat], diagnosing, and repairing it yourself....and it working like new. Not to mention the 3,4,5,600.00$ hit you would take if you had to have the repair done for you. Good job MJ !!

Just got this response from the ebay guy. You best jump on this motor before it goes bu-bye. The cowling/prop will net you $200 on ebay. That's a free spare lower unit, trim and tilt, oil tank, etc., etc. !!!

Dang it BS!! I was gonna cheat MJ outta that oil tank for peanuts!! Now you've **** blocked me!!

Naw, I don't really need it. The only reason I'd buy it would be to help sell my '94 150 which has neither oil tank or prop.

But you are correct in that you could get a pretty penny just for the parts. Hey and that cowling - she looks good. You should be able to get $100 or better just for it!
