Re: well here she is!
yes test it on the ground i check mine when buying in any position. The throttle doesn't matter but spins faster open but test the starter with them closed. should have around 120

Re: well here she is!
I agree comp tests are not conclusive, but as good an indicator as there is w/ out tearin' the motor down...if the comp #s are good, start it up...if that goes well, put it on the boat and run it...heck...it was FREEEEE...ya CAN'T lose much...
...and Kajun...if it were mine, I'd TRASH the VRO and run the mixed gas ya got and keep-on mixin'!! ;) ...that of course is assumin' ya got the right mix in the tank ;) :) ... Carbs could probably use a good cleanin', too...and maybe some lube on the starter solenoid... ;) ... Keep the pics comin'...great project...can't believe FREEEEE ::) ;D ;D ;D ... Didja get a title? |
Re: well here she is!
ok i'll do a comp check as it sits..
yea i dont think the VRO is going back on it..i dont trust them at all....i'll definetly clean or rebuild carbs....lube on the starter solenoid? wheres that at? no title's needed for motors here in virginia that i know of... |
Re: well here she is!
woohoo!! just did a compression check
120 125 125 125 skools it it normal for that top left one to be alil lower? on forces it normal for one to be alil lower. i think i'm gonna go to bass pro and buy some marine tex and 5200 so i can get my transom doweled up before it rains this week.....then i'll come back and work on modifying my engine stand to fit this motor.....whew.. wow ..big relief for me in seeing these comp results... |
Re: well here she is!
she's alive IT'S ALIVE GREA***124;T your are in great shape with those reading. 120 is average. Now we gotta git her kool lol. Hey can ya say Git-R-Done lol. they will fit an engine stand. I have 2 on motor stands 1 is a V4 other a V6. I even run mine on motor stands. What kind of controls are you looking for side mount, binn mount, or thru wall style??
|
Re: well here she is!
He's already got a binnacle control box that'll work. According to the pics posted before, it looks to be a Teleflex universal (mounted backwards btw. ;D)

Re: well here she is!
git-r-done! ;D...yup i have a teleflex binn control that i'd like to use since its already mounted.. i think i would just need the cables to connect to it.....chum...is it backwards? lol
i'm on hold pretty much till i can get a 1/2" drill bit to drill mount holes in my stand ..i modified the stand tonight it was really wide, like 45"..now its just wide enough to fit this motor...26"...plus re-inforced the mount 2x6's with a 3/4" piece of hardwood luan ..should be strong enough to hold it now. shopping list for motor is: 1. new or used control cables 2. new wiring harness with key 3.new or used factory manual 4.new or used Jackplate 5. Gauges which gauges will i need for this motor? i have a speedo, faria tach, and gas/battery gauge, a tilt/trim toggle switch....whats a good tach for this motor? |
Re: well here she is!
teleflex gauge or OMC the one you have may have a selector on the back by chance??? it may work worth a look. they have the control wiring avail. used at Boat Recyclers in NC look on ebay.

Re: well here she is!
What length cables do you need? I gots cables. ;D
The Teleflex works either way. Usually mounted the other way around though. Doesn't really matter I think. |
