Re: Best Bottom Paint
Pettit Vivid. Works well for boats frequently in and out of the water and looks the best, too.

What was the paint skools used??

Re: Best Bottom Paint
Actually, Skools didn't paint it, the previous owner did. Anyway, here's the link to what it looks like.

Re: Best Bottom Paint
The active biocide- keeps stuff from growing on the hull-
Is copper the more copper the better and higher the cost. Look at the lable and compare cost. Fot the last couple of years have been using West marine premium goo can see the copper flakes in the black paint. Boat stays in all season with no problem |
Re: Best Bottom Paint
If you want the best for anti-fouling, compare the weights of a gallon. A heavily copper laden paint will weigh about 2 or 3 times as much as a regular gallon of paint. Newer paints use their copper more efficiently, though. Vivid weighs very little per gallon, it uses cuproisocyanate as a biocide. It will work fine for most situations, but if your fouling is really bad, nothing beats the paints packed full of copper like Trinidad.

Re: Best Bottom Paint
Cheapest is by far the best. I use West marine's brand. Boaters World's brand is probably the same. About a quart and a half should do two coats easy. If you keep it in the water like I do, and if you use it at least once a month, the cheap stuff works great. I'm not even gonna have to repaint mine this year. Just do some touch up on the engine mount and swim platform support. Last year I pressure washed off the old, sanded a few spots, and reapplied. Best bang for the buck in my opinion. Here it is a year old after living in the salt waters of NC all day everyday.
