Re: ? about Bellows, gimbal bearing, trim senders

Ok I got started and so far all is going well except replacing the shifter cable bellows. How do I get the bellows over that cable. Do I disassemble the drive end of the cable or does the engine end of the cable have to go through the bellows first?

Here's a picture of what I have at the drive end of the cable. Item #31 will not fit though the bellows

Also you can see here I've set myself up to work on this a little at a time each day after work. Rain or dark will not stop me. I'll get this done before the weekend. Also the folding ladder made a good support for the outdrive.

23 and 28 come off of the actual cable. Also pay attention to 31 on your new cable if you replace it, mine in the new kit wasn't chamfered and bound up once I had it all together. But the end that hooks up to the shift bracket comes apart and comes off. The you pull the cable out of the gimbal housing. I would HIGHLY reccomend replacing the cable while your there though, you don't want to replace it at the beggining of next season do you?

31 should rotate freely on the cable end once assembled, put the outer cable thru the bellows first, a little grease and some Mercury Power Tune will lube that thing right up so it jumps right thru that small hole in the shift cable bellows

Re: ? about Bellows, gimbal bearing, trim senders

Thanks to Spareparts for some tech support. I got the shifter cable out. Disconnected it from the engine side and pulled it through the transom. With more suggestions from Spareparts I'm ready to start putting it all back together.

Sorry no pics tonight, to busy talking to spare on the phone and working on the boat.

THANKS SPARE

Well I finally got it done Sunday afternoon. It was a major PIA to get to the upper bolt that held the trim senders in place but I eventually got it. Sorry, no pics, I just kept working and never stopped to take them.
