Fire, I have the same truck you mentioned, 05 HD2500 w/ 6L and I love it. Never had the 4500rpm downshift you mentioned though. Mine gets 14 daily driving and 15.5 on the highway. I'm happy with it. I've pulled boats as large as a Grady 282 Sailfish on 100 mile trips w/ no problem.

Nice looker, but you could not give me a Dodge, I am a hard core Chevy man, I have no down shifting prolmes that you speak of?

As far as gas goes, I think all the trucks are close, I get 15 to 17 city hwy mix

Dodge has always been the worse on gas. But iin these size trucks, they all getting pretty close now, even the new Toyota Tundra says 14 city on there sticker!!

I wiuld be looking for something that is proven to be dependable, not gas at this point.
