Re: Wassaw Island
Great post Tsubaki!! I've started anchoring off the north shore more often due to the heavier boat traffic at Beach Hammock (depending on what direction the winds are coming from). I've always wanted to circumnavigate the island. You really know your stuff.

Re: Wassaw Island
Salt Pond is very tricky at half to low tide. Careful east of New Cut, it goes dry at low tide (nothing but mud). The bar on the northeast end of Wassaw changes about twice a year, sometimes there is a cut between the island and the bar. The southeast end of Pine Island has a bar that runs about parallel to the end of Wassaw Island.
There are a lot of low water problem area's all around the island even on the beachfront. |
Re: Wassaw Island
If you want to see how tough you or your buddie is, just run aground in New Cut at low tide and no wind.
The sand gnats will pick your bones after they have eaten your skin off. I have two witnesses to this, the only relief they could get was to get in the mud and coat themselves with it and wait till the tide came back in. |
