Re: My ship didn't come in, BUT.....

This question has been asked for years!!

The tank with the shortest hose will draw first.
The suposed way to fix this it to make both tanks have the same leanth hose and the same leanth hose for the vent. This way the perssure is the same in both tanks.

I have done this and they still don't drain the same.

I now have 3 tanks and I have put a 3 way vaue so I can switch from tank to tank.

I like this set up as I can see how much gas I use each tank, and in the case one tank goes empty I just switch to the next tank, alerting me to how much gas I have left.

I own an '89 V20 with 1 60 gal. tank. I would love a built in 20gal. reserve tank. where would be the place to install? Has anyone ever done this? We sometimes go for tuna in the late summer and you use a lot of gas doing the fast troll. Probably don't need it but it would make me sweat less.

How far 1 way is your run to the tuna?

I have went 40 miles one way with my 60 gallon, but boy it sure was cutting it close after logging over 110 miles I had less than 10 gallons left.

It really depends on where the fish are, but 40 miles is definately not unheard of. I would be cutting it close on that type of trip. I just hate having to think about gas supply when I should be thinking about the fish and enjoying the day. I'm sure you understand.

2 tanks

:sun:check the hoses might have a restriction in the one

Overboard...I put 40 gal tanks under each seat box (80 gals total), so w/the addition of the fuel-sippin' Honda, I got plenty of range...

To add a 20 gal tank wouldn't take a very large seat-box at all and shouldn't be too heavily weighted on one side(burn it off 1st goin' out)...good luck w/it and let us know what ya do...

Wow, thats a great idea. I am going to change the seat bases anyways, so that seems like the right way to go. Also, that would keep me from having to cut up the floor anymore than I already have to.

hammer are you still looking for a tank for the 78? i think i can buy us several 70 gallon tanks that are new and plastic. around $50 to 75 each what ya think?

This picture shows the installation of a 24 gallon tank installed in the livewell bay on my V. It is a standard 24 Gallon Tempo that fits right in the livewell. As you can see, the fill and vent pipes are above the floor. The addition of this tank gives me a total of 84 gallons of gas. I haven't run the V with both tanks filled so I don't know know how it will effect the balance of the boat.

Thats a good set up, but I think I would have drilled into the floor and brought the hoses in from the side of the live well, as not to trip on them.
