Thanks all for the encouraging words. Something I discovered today while hosing down the deck has me concerned a little. Although this full transom model has scuppers it's really not a self bailing deck. The deck scuppers merely direct the water down to the bilge :o
When I get her in the slip now it will be like in the old days when I used to have to pray my bilge float worked every time it rained. I've had some lucky saves in the past with defective floats/bilge pumps on boats that were not self bailing. Has anyone with a full transom model devised a workaround to this situation? ???

Unfortunately, the solution would involve drilling through your hull. You could drill through, epoxy the exposed wood, then install a through hull fitting imbedded in 3M 5200. Change the drain scuppers in the cockpit to ones you can attach a hose to the backside, then connect the cockpit drains with the through hull fittings. Just watch your water line on the through hulls for correct placement.

capt.jerry i have 85 v20 an have cockpit drain problems. itseems they are almost level with the water line when tied up. when fishing,drift fishing,i always have to put drain plugs in to stop water from coming in.I ve
goten use todoing this, if i dont im walking around with wet foot.the real problem will start when the comes to re power.i still like to keep my boat an I/o .right now my old merc 4 cyl freshwater cooled 460 170hp is doing just fine but when the time comes a merc v6 will be my choice .with the added weight i might sit deeper in the water .

Capt. Jerry - you've gotta fix the drain problem.

On other versions of the steplift there are thru hull's on both sides as described by CB above. The placement of these thru hull is slightly lower than the deck in each side. A rubber tube connects the thru hulls - so water on the deck drains of the side of your boat.

Thanks Seakindly. Bigshrimpin thanks for the info. Draining thru the sides will be a much simply mod than trying to get thru the transom. The scuppers in each corner of the cockpit seem to be where the water wants to run so tomorrow I will measure to see if I can attach a connection..(i.e. pvc glassed at each end or a hose) that will run back and down yet above the water line exiting each side. Hopefully the existing scuppers will have a nipple on the back side I can attach to. If so this will be a simple fix. Will share pics if I am successful. Also got a killer deal on recovering the red velour type fabric on the cabin cushions (5 in all) with marine grade white vinyl with piping on one side.
$250.00 for the material and labor which I felt was a great deal. Also found an engine cowling in great shape for $250.00 plus shipping.
