Winsotnbike - while you are waiting for an answer, prolly a good idea to look through the older 80's brochures that BS put in the gallery. I'd bet if you start with the low 80's and move up you'll find where the scuppers were added. I'm sure they tout that feature in the brochure. ;)

For what it's worth, my boat stays in a slip and I have no scuppers. I do have a cockpit cover that keeps rain out and an auto bilge switch. Boats without self bailing/self sinking cockpits have been safely kept in slips for a long time!

Good point CT. I guess if your "belly" fills with water due to a hole of some sort, the wieght of the water could possible bring the deck level low enough to allow water to enter through the scuppers, which would seriously compromise floatation.

I remember some talk about this on the board a few months back. I'm thinking the non-scuppers belly could possible fill with water without compromising floatation, especially with a full transom model (if everything is sealed up good). Don't know and don't want to find out!

To the guys with swim platforms. Scuppers have sunk a ton of those boats due to the tide change and the platform stuck under the dock. The boat back fills and sinks. I've seen several on www.usauctions.com that have had that happen.

Did the scuppers and the full liner and the belly tanks start the same year?...if so, then probably '79 or '80 would be the year to start lookin' for...but as said above scuppers gotta be cleaned out/maintained, bilge-pump good and HOT battery or shore-power w/all good connections...CT's full cover is GREAT idea... ;) 8)...

The full cover came with my boat and I attribute my hulls lack of soft deck areas, shot stringers (so far as I know) and just general good condition for a 20 year old hull to keeping the darn water out of the boat (pretty ironic) during its life. It's probably easier and definately looks way cooler to keep your self bailing boat open with just a bimini like most modern boats are stored in slips and on trailers, but for every hole that's drilled in those cored hulls without proper sealing there's a shot at water infiltration and structural deterioration. Means nothing to the guy who buys the boat new and keeps it for five years, but it does mean something to a cheapskate like me who buys a 16 year old boat.
