Great stuff Mirage...is Blue Chart still considered ''top-of-the-line?''...or has anybody come up w/better like Navionics...who shows BEST bottom contours?...

Either way, Willy, plan on buying a unit AND additional software... ;)...

I have the Navman 5500 also and love it. If I had more room on the boat I'd have considered a furuno. If this discussion turns toward f'finders, the Furuno 600l is top notch.

hardtop = external
softop = internal

I haven't had any trouble with my internal in combination with my softop. Plus this is the opinion I got over a year ago when I asked the same question on this board 8)

I have a bimi top and a internal antenna, never have had any trouble

IF you go internal keep it away from the windshield frame. I went internal but had to exchange for external because I had it mounted up in the corner where the windshiedl frames meet.

Airslot, did you have to swap the entire unit for another? Or just buy the external as a mod?

Navman traded me even up for an external ant. unit. It would've worked fine if I had mounted it elsewhere but, like most, I'm outa V-20 dashspace.
