Re: Steering Clearance (Clarence)
Looking at the pic again there really looks like the motor is sittin to far back, like there is something between the motor and hull??

Re: Steering Clearance (Clarence)
Randleman, you dont have the back side of the motor bracket shimmed out with washers or something like that do ya ?.
Or one hell of a thick transom cap ?? ??? |
Re: Steering Clearance (Clarence)
transom wedges? That's all I can think of

Re: Steering Clearance (Clarence)
My 1975V was like that when I had a single motor I don’t think it rubbed as bad at that one does

Re: Steering Clearance (Clarence)
Yank the motor and go bracket. ;) ;D

Re: Steering Clearance (Clarence)
Looks like the motor isn't flush against the transom, but thats already been said. I think what I would do assuming it is against the transom, is grind that notch out a little deeper for clearence, seal it up with either epoxy or thicked gel-coat, and be done with it.

Re: Steering Clearance (Clarence)
The transom cap is keeping the motor from pulling all the way up to the transom, but it lacks less than 1/8" being there.
I guess the thing to do is pull the motor back off and grind off the back of the cap. There was a gouge already there from the original 20" motor, and you can see the gouge from the 25" motor on the top of the cap. I was wondering when something was going to give me trouble, everything has been going too smooth. |
Re: Steering Clearance (Clarence)
i was about to ask if the Merc was doing the same thing or if it was just the johnson?

I might as well put on a jackplate cause I am going to have to take the motor off again anyway. |
