Fire for the mixed bag you and actually most of us do the skiff is not the boat. Don't get me wrong, fished on little ones and big ones the CS's and few other companies versions and they are simple, which I like, they are generally very economical, which I again like, they are very stable for back bay and some river work and they have a shallow draft. Make a good back bay/ sod bank fly fishing rig.
But if you are going to use them for general bay/inlet/light off shore use you better be built like Gumby because they will slap you like a biatch non stop unless you are literally going to idle whereever you go. Even a mild V like a Maycraft will ride ten times better and if you put a set of trim tabs on it it actually rides sweet and dry. You could put trim tabs all day on a CS and you will still get soaked and biatch slapped. With my neck I can't even think about the rides I had in them as a younger fellow, it hurts too much ;) |

I like my boat!! *But anything over a good 1 foot chop she starts to bang! *But I have been in 6 footers with it and its slow and steady, she get you there nice and safe!!
As for a stable platform, All I can say its a great boat!! Many a time I stayed way past when I should have left! I see some white water and we are drifting fine, then I start the ride home, and I am in the $hit! going 15 MPH all the way home to keep from pounding. Thats as Honest as I can be!! Great bay boat, and good offshore if you pick your days and head home when you should!! If you are any more then 10 miles out you better head in shore by Noon cause thats when it starts to kick around here. But CC & Dully ride much better in the slop then the cuddys! |

fire. i've got a neighbor with a 24 ft carolina skiff & he loves it, fishes the bay, flats & inshore when not to rough. it is huge, like a barge. the plate says it is rated at 18 people. he swears its dry and smooth, i haven't ridden in it yet. he bought it brand new in oct of 05 for $15000(with trailer & johnson(suzuki)140 4 stroke). we went to chatlee in NC to pick it up.

Phat: thanks, let me know if you fish in the DLX sometime, I'd be interested in hearing your impressions compared to the V20.
I know it's dumb to "compare" the two boats being as they are so different in design...just trying to learn more about the V's. So many choices. Thanks for everyone's comments, I really like this board!! Maybe I need a J14, V20CC, 2480 DLX, and a 58' Hatteras...yeah, that would about cover it! Actually, with the gas prices, maybe just a canoe. Hey, I did run Hatteras Inlet in my kayak last year...I did twenty-two miles that day...didn't burn a drop of gas! :o |

The boat i had before this was a 21 hydra-sport that was a real deep v. it was the best riding & driest 21 ft boat i had ever been on. it was kevlar hull with a 235, super fast, but when you stopped. it was like a canoe. it always felt "tippy". it didn't have trim tabs and was very sensitive to weight changes. before that i had a 19 ft mako that was very stable, but super wet. the v20 makes a great compromise. i kept the mako7 years, the hydra-sport 2 years, and i've had the v20 17 years.

		Fire,
Just be sure to test drive a CS before you buy, unless it is slick calm they will beat the carp out of you. On the other hand, I am finding that with my V, when I come up to a wave that I think I need to brace for, the impact is more like hitting a pillow than a rock. It is hard to compare boats 10 years apart, but I swear the V rides as good, and maybe better than the 1989 Grady White 25 Sailfish that I used to own. |
