Ozzie been thinking about your querie while sipping some Jack, thats how I be doing my best thinking by the way.
The top cap, inner liner would also be part of the structural integrity of the later V's, I'm willing to bet a few bucks that the earlier designs without them had thicker glass and reinforcement wood etc. to give them the same structural integrity.
Just a thought, plus the glass matt used in earlier boats may have been a heavier weave or older style(heavier weave) thru the inner lay up for the same reason.

Willy, you got a point...but remember Franco's brother sayin' the lower hull w/stringers made up the ENTIRE structural rigidity of the boat and that it didn't rely on inner liner...course he was talkin' about a different boat mfgr...so, could be ;) ...

...and speakin' of the Pubah...where de FLOCK is he!?...

well I don't think the liner is were the weight comes from in the newer boats, were I think it is coming from is the stringers!!

I was able to look at a newer 80 ?? and wow what a lot of room under the floor! I bet us with the older boats don't have 1/2 the room under the floor as the new ones!

Need much taller stringer system then the old for that.

Re: 1980 Wellcraft Catalog

That's more to add to my point...old/new...same weight...howzat ??? ...

Re: 1980 Wellcraft Catalog

Old, * more glass, more liner, less stringer

New, *less liner, more stringer, lighter glass

== the same *;D

Or they just could have wanted to save money and not change the sticker??

Now that we have that solved, why is I/O 700# more, are they including the motor in that weight??

That's what I'd figure ...doesn't 700 sound about right for motor and drive :) ...all that could easily add up to 700 or more lbs ... :) ...
