I don’t follow any rules about my boats …..so on a bit of a whim I bought a 23 Seacraft Sceptre that I planned to rehab some. Reason ….just wanted a more ocean going boat and I’ve done plenty of research about the Seacraft. But oops…..Seacraft needed more work than I wanted to get into, and just about that time I found a bit of a “barn find “ 1980 Formula 233 cuddy listed for very fair price down in FLA… Down to FLA I went ….sold the Seacraft and now finishing up the Formula Formula had 1988 Suzuki 200 that still ran great and I fished it a few times last summer. Found a collector that wanted it..so sold and then found a nearly new Suzuki DF 250 AP . And here we are … |
From a couple of pictures I saw, the formula looks a bit like the V and a bigger boat would be nice for the ocean. I’m glad you’re not boatless.
Interestingly, I got my ‘85 V-20 almost 20 years ago from a guy with no mechanical ability beyond changing the oil (for which I’m grateful), when it quit running. He’d used it in the ocean off California fishing. He replaced it with a new 23’ Striper walk around and told me later that the V was a better boat in the ocean. Unfortunately mine is collecting dust until I can get back to it for a thorough clean-up and a few maintenance items. |

With proper trim tabs and experienced Capt. these Vs run great, and very stable on the drift. The Formula 233 is a very different hull. It rides much bigger, and is much bigger inside and out. Design goes back to Don Aronow in 1962. Its also a very classic cuddy design which I like. Im pleased to have sold the V21 to Dave, and fortunate to have found the Formula. |
Good to see your back but how can you sell such a beautiful boat?
