Step - might want to talk to Victor at ARG Marine in FLA....561-840-1514.

Long time Evinrude dealer, lots of experience and will be happy to talk to you without bias.
Victors a straight shooter. They also sell a LOT of used outboards. I bought from them and I'm a fairly demanding customer.....ref warranty, shipping quality etc.
( never offer the listed price)

Good luck whatever you wind up with.

This is the general advice given for ANY used engine. They have all become so expensive for minor repairs, that resale has taken a huge hit. So unless it's still under warranty, plan for the worst. For every person who has nothing but good, chances are you will find somebody who has had the opposite experience.

Don't know what it's worth, like others said it's a 13 year old saltwater outboard. A good friend of mine has the same year model and horsepower on a 19 Key West and loves it, owned it since new, no problems, just routine maintainence. Of course it's not a four stroke so you'll have to make up for it in some other way. Yeti cooler maybe?

its a 2 stroke in the new age of 4 strokes.
its an evinrude.
It has a bad reputation.

Like a 30 year old boat, it might be worth owning but not worth buying.

It should be so cheap as to not hurt if it takes a crapper...

2 stroke in age of 4 stroke is pure ignorance.

HA!:nut:

While it was partly meant as a joke....

the reality is that 2 stroke outboards are eventually going to go the way of 2 stroke motorcycles and lawn mowers. I know a lot of guys prefer them and there are power to weight advantages, but the blue smoke sucks! And the four strokes start like a car, every time. And you can troll all day at idle speed with them without gumming up the plugs (and not choke to death).

So, resale value on them is necessarily going to be lower.

Maybe not everyone......

Friend with latest new/used boat with Yami 250hp says he can't wait to get back to 2 stroke !
Misses the get up and go torque.

Evinrudes new Etec G2 seems .......amazing.....as best word.
Real world feedback of fuel economy 15-20% better than the G1's and even more torque.
Plus, way less maintenance than 4 strokes.

To each.......there own. I do like to quiet idle/ troll of some 4 stroke motors.

I think that eventually it's not going to be an issue (or a choice). The laws will change because of the EPA and such to make 4 strokes mandatory. Just like seat belts and other safety items on cars. If you have a car that was made without them you can continue to go that route, but they are mandatory on all the newer cars. And like the mandatory emissions rules, I think outboards are going to hit that same wall. :head:

Been running a 23cc with a yami 250 four and I can tell you it has get up n go! Love that motor. The boat needs more fishing room...makes my V20 feel like a Viking 50...

oil & filter. tuff job....
never worry about oil injection or mixing ratio

only change plugs every 2 seasons (even though they don't need it.)

everything else is the same as a 2 stroke.

No Blue Smoke.....:nut:
