E-tec 175

My boat a 86, It was a merc 150 carb now a left over new 175 with a lot of xtra power. Cruising is effortless. Also hydro assist steering was worth the investment during the new rigging.

40 hp on a V ? I like it !

How about triple old 18 hp outboards ?

Or the new 557 hp outboard.

2004 4 stroke 90hp on a v20?

I really don't think you'll be happy with it.

I feel a 90 especially if 4 stroke will be too small. I am using a 2013 Mercury 150hp 4 stroke and very happy. Trim tabs improved handing of the extra weight of 4 stroke as well . I guy in my marina has a dual console V 20 sport and has an older 175 Evinrude ... With a 90 you will be pushing that engine hard

Hull

This are older Wellcraft hulls and seem to be heavier then today's fiberglass hulls . Keep that in mind as well

150 seems the solid bet overall......

Only the freaks and wacko's need bigger outboards than that.......

Some guys don't stop at 200 hp.......they get the bigger block 200 HO edition.
And, I'll bet if the V21 didn't have 200 max hp rating, some would go 225 - 300.

Freaks and wacko's.....

I got an 87 v20 with a 2006 115 Mercury, I just got back from using it for the first time since I got it and I was running at 31mph at 4500 rpms. I had 4 adults and 2 small kids. I was really impressed with it I must say.
