I have an '07 150hp Yamaha 4-stk. My full load is around 3,000lbs. Thats 4 heads, Ice, tackle BUT excluding the 400lbs of fish I bring home:hi:.

At typically seas(2-3') and cruise(28-32mph) Im getting between 3.2-3.6MPG. That puts my range in at 180-201mi.

Now same conditions with light load Im in around 212-230mi.....

-BUT-

My buddy had a 175 4-stk Suzuki on a 21' Pioneer CC. We would make 170mi on 45g's......pretty impressive:clap:. Although our soakin wet clothes added a few more lbs to the load......

What's the 4 stroke weigh, and is it a bit heavy for the V?

I get around 5mpg at 22-25 mph with my Johnzuki 140 4 stroke...but I only have a 40 gallon tank so my range is not what it could be with a 60 gallon tank.

I have never even come close to running out, infact, I often go 2 or 3 days without gassing up.

My motor weighs 410 pounds, it doesn't seem any different than the 150 Merc that was on it when I got the boat.

Now, accurately calculating GPH and MPG is difficult without specifically setting out to do such. Without a flow meter, you have to run a specific course and try different speeds and accurately measure your fuel and try again...not likely that anyone is going to do that.

I've got the Suzuki 140 4 stroke. I have made a 100+ mile trip three times and refilled about 33 gals each time. But...

I can't say for certain how much farther than 100 I went. I know for sure it is 50 from the inlet to the destination. Its 9 mile round trip from inlet to dock so lets say 110+.(yea, yea, I could figure out how to get that info out of the gps but I'm tired!!!)

I trolled around for hours while there.

I didn't come back directly, I hit spots on the way in.

I don't know for sure that "full" is the same when I gas up light and by myself vs. heavy with coolers, gear, and 3 guys onboard. "Full" meaning that the gas spit out the vent.

I can say for sure that I get no less than 3.3 mpg running a mix of speeds including 4 hours at 25 to 30 mph.

I would say that I could probably get 4 mpg running 25mph @ ~4500rpm in a straight line without stops on a flat sea... so 240 mile range would be theoretically possible with a 60 gal tank.

But I won't be running to the Hudson Canyon for yellowfins, much as I'd like to... ; )

Big Optimax get good mileage on a bracketed center console.

I can get up to 5 MPG. But that is in near perfect conditions and a very light load running on a river. Worst mileage to date was with the 24p Tempest hauling 10 people off the scallop grounds last weekend. Dropped back to 3 MPG. Made the little 250 grunt a little. It isn't propped to haul that kinda weight. Cruise at 4000RPM at about 30MPH on GPS.
Figured on 60 gallons useable, driving civilized, the range is from 180 to 300 miles depending on the load and conditions.

Yup, I'm a fan of big outboard that runs easily on medium size boat.
