So if / when I re power, the " little etec 200hp " adds only 43lbs, at least 50hp,
high tech / fuel economy and probably..........5-7mph faster top speed to hit
about 46mph +. Not bad.....

If you go back to the thread you started on top speed.
I gained 13.7 mph adding 50 hp and a few more cubes.
The little E-tec is a great choice IMO. I expect you would go over 50mph when light. Should carry weight to 45 anytime you have the opportunity.
The Big E-tec, why not just go the full monty and put a 300 on it :-)
I seriously love your threads. :sun:
Repower at 150 hours, WHAT?

Man, 150 hours they just starting to loosen up a bit and really run. You know teh old saying, they always run there best just before they go POP! So I always run the snot out of em, and when they REALLY run strong I worry.

Not dumping the Rude 150, it's a fine simple motor.
Likely to run it till it quits, or I win the lottery whichever doesn't come first.

In the long run, IMO the small block 200 Etec is gonna be your best buy...considering weight/horsepower of the motor itself and combination of that w/a V20 hull, it makes a nice long-haul package...

This boat cruises fine in the 25- 35mph range.
It also handles fast cruising just fine too ............ and that's the thing. It's cool to have the HP to run 50mph +, and therefore zip along at 40- 45mph when you want to get there in a hurry and conditions allow.

I've already run my V21 from off the Jersey Highlands down to Seaside.
That's maybe 25 miles in the ocean and when it's flat or just rollers, sometimes I like to get going. Since i have the 150 hp on mine, that's about 30-35 for fast cruising. ( WOT is a hair over 40mph )

The 200HO is also 218 hp at the prop.

The speed difference should not be more then 5 to 7 mph I would think.

Question is --how fast do you want to go???

With mine loaded for tuna--means ice--alot-Fish hold full, gear, food, 30 gallon bait tank full of water, people and 70+ gallons of fuel with arch and stand up top--I can run 49+ agianst a good 15 knot head wind--Best I have seen is 53+ with the 200HO. Faster than I need to go most of the time on Saltwater. But it does cruise real easy at 35 to 40 and not even work with the heavy load.

What prop are you using - Rebel, Viper, other ?

Genie Aye 05-21-2013 12:07 AM

Rebel 15.25 x 19 SS

Just let the torque do the work.

Genie - not sure how you're doing it, but whatever ..........that's impressive .

My 200 HO with the 18" Rebel is turning 5,300 rpm, so I'm going to drop to the 17" to get the motor spinning more freely............. likely 5,600 +/-.
Top speed with 3/4 fuel and two on board was about 46 mph, so I hope to pick up 2-4 mph with the revised prop.
I'm very impressed with total performance- from starting, trolling, mid range.

are you trimmed out to the max? I am when running the top speed I stated. also the height of the motor on the transom--I raised it one hole from where they mounted it and have a 5 degree shim in there as well.

bgreene 06-23-2013 06:06 AM

Was trimmed out, tabs up. Could be engine height, so first I'll go with the 17" Rebel and re test. Ran out of back bay room to check the cavitation plate - see if it was below water or just above.
