Buried two JRs myself this year...one stomach cancer, the other congestive heart failure...mother/daughter died 3 mos apart...once they have your heart, it's tuff to let go...

tough break, i've lost a few good ones in the past. they are always glad to see you, no matter where you've been or for how long.
like the old story, lock your dog and your wife in your trunk for 2 hours, when you open it up, guess which one will be the happiest to see you.
